EHMS Newsletter
November 2026
Dear Families,
I hope that everyone is enjoying the nice weather as we move into November. On Friday, you should have received your student's first quarter report card via email. If you are having any access issues, please reach out to the main office. The second quarter brings continued work on core curriculum, and the beginning of winter sports. This year, we have off the week of Thanksgiving for a longer break than previous years. Please make sure to keep track of our important dates for the month, and review the note on Academic awards. As always, reach out if you need anything!
Sincerely,
Jake Keefe and Dana Cerrito

Academic Awards
Please take note that we are adjusting our quarterly academic awards this year. We will be sending award certificates for High Honor, Honor, and Merit roll home with qualifying students at the end of each quarter. At the end of the school year, we will host a ceremony for families and students to attend. Details will come as we move closer to the event. Please reach out with any questions!
Thanksgiving/Holiday Support
We have community partners that are willing and able to help donate thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts to families in need. These are limited and will be distributed on a first come basis. If you or someone you know is in need for either Thanksgiving or Christmas support, please reach out to our counselor or our social worker via email. werveyheather@elyriaschools.org or whitneyelisha@elyriaschools.org. Please call the main office if you have any questions!

Safe Routes to School
For all students that plan to walk to EHMS, please observe the following routes for safer transit to and from school. These locations have safer street crossings and/or guards posted before and after school hours.
Bikes, Scooters, eBikes, etc.
Students are permitted to ride bikes, scooters, eBikes to school when the weather permits. With that said, students must walk them upon coming onto the Heights campus and walk them when leaving campus. This ensures the safety of everyone during high traffic times. Any student riding to school should also bring a lock to attach it to our bike-lock in front of our main entrance. Students are strongly encouraged to wear helmets. If you have additional questions, please call!

Cell Phones and Attire
As we begin the new year, we ask that you please review the ECS Code of Conduct with your Pioneer. It outlines the expectations for all ECS students while at Heights. It's been linked below for your convenience. As always, if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our main office.
We often get questions about attire and cell-phones. Hoodies, and similar tops or jackets with hoods, are "fan favorites" when it comes to school attire. We like them, too, but not when they are worn up and over the head during the school day.
The district's Student Code of Conduct provides direction on headgear, stating that it may not be worn over a person's head or scalp (excluding headgear that's worn for religious or medical reasons.) Hoods can make it difficult to identify an individual in an emergency, and they can also be a distraction in class. Please remind students that hoods may not be worn up during the school day.
The Student Code of Conduct also offers guidance on attire. Clothing must be school appropriate and may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment. Pants and tops must fit properly and be in good repair; crop tops are not permitted.
Additionally, footwear must be school appropriate--slippers and slipper socks are not permitted. Blankets also may not be worn in school.
Students may bring their cell phones to school but they must be turned off and put away during the day. Same rules apply to Bluetooth headphones--they may not be worn during the school day.
If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the main office and our staff will convey a message or assist you in reaching your student.
