Parent - Teacher Conferences & Collaboration
I wanted to remind everyone that our Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on the afternoons of November 5 and 6. These conferences are a wonderful opportunity for teachers and families to come together and discuss each child's progress, strengths, and areas for growth.
Building a strong partnership between home and school is essential for our students' success. When we work together, supporting each other's efforts, we create a positive and encouraging environment where every child can thrive.
Every GVS teacher’s goal is to do what is best for each individual student. Our teachers are very excited for these conferences. They look forward to sharing your child's achievements and collaborating with you on the best ways to support their child(ren).
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. We look forward to seeing you during these important meetings!

Nov 5 & 6 Early Dismissal
GVS Early Dismissal is 1:00
This is just a friendly reminder that on Wednesday, November 5th and Thursday, November 6th school will let out at 1:00 p.m. for parent-teacher conferences those afternoons.
Buses should arrive at their stops approximately 2:15 hours ahead of their normal arrival times. Please arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than the scheduled time to allow for any wiggle room!
Please also note that on these days, there are no music lessons, art club, nor afterschool care, so please plan accordingly!
Closed campus...
The Grantham Village School campus (drive around the school, trails around the school, playground, etc) is closed to the public during the school day, 7:30am - 3:30pm, when children are present.
School starts at 8:30!
We love every minute with our GVS students!
Arrivals after 8:30 are marked tardy.

Become a GVS Math Maverick!
There is still plenty of math fun to be had in this year's Math Mavericks Challenge, where students have the opportunity to challenge themselves with a variety of grade-level appropriate math problems, and win prizes, such as an ice-cream party!
The program runs through April 24, 2026. Every two weeks, a new set of problems is available. Please find the current math challenge attached, or hardcopies are available by the front office. The current challenge is due by noon on November 7, 2025.
For more information and to see a list of last year's winners, check here. For questions, please contact our math interventionist, Ms. Sam Hutchins, at shutchins@gvshawks.org.
Photo retake day!
Photo retake day is Monday, November 3. The photographers will only be here for an hour or so, so make sure your student is at school first thing that morning if you plan to have your child's photo retaken. Please notify the office and your child's teacher if your student will participate in retake day.
If you preordered photos and want a retake, please send your photos back to school with your student so that we may return them to the photographers. Pre-Ordered photos have not yet been delivered to the school and will arrive prior to retake day.
A message from our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Buckley:
Problem Solving
When children are young, they naturally explore, ask questions, and experiment to figure things out. But as they get older, their ability to problem-solve often decreases. This isn’t because they become less capable—it’s usually because their learning environments and social experiences change.
In early childhood, mistakes are part of learning, and curiosity drives discovery. Over time, though, schoolwork tends to focus more on getting the “right answer,” and children start to fear making mistakes or being judged by others. They may also have fewer opportunities for hands-on exploration and creative play, both of which are essential for building problem-solving skills.
Parents can help by encouraging their children to stay curious, praising effort instead of perfection, and creating opportunities to think through challenges without giving quick answers. Reminding children that mistakes are how we learn helps them build confidence and keeps their natural problem-solving spirit alive.

Looking Ahead – Holiday Fun in Grantham
Mark Your Calendars for the following festive holiday events:
Saturday, Nov. 22nd – Holiday Tree Lighting
Starting Monday, Nov. 24th – Mail Your Letters to the North Pole
Saturday, Dec. 6th – Breakfast with Santa
The Grantham Parent Teacher Group (GPTG) would love it if you could please fill out the (very brief) Family Connections Directory survey, found here.
The survey allows parents to grant or deny permission for their child’s name to be included in the “Class List” section of the directory. Checking “yes” helps ensure inclusivity and accuracy, allowing parents to know how many students are in each class and who their child’s classmates are—especially helpful when organizing treats, cards, or other class-related activities.
Order forms will go home next week.
Place orders by 11/18/25
Orders arrive week of 12/11/25
We at the GPTG love to support our community and celebrate local talent! We’re excited to help spread the word about the “’Tis the Season Makers Craft Market” — a festive event showcasing the creativity of local artisans and makers.
If you’re a crafter, creator, or small business owner, this is a wonderful opportunity to share your work and connect with the community during the holiday season.
