Welcome Back View Ridge Families
September Monthly Newsletter
A Welcome From Your New Principal Ms. Mayan
Dear Viking Families,
I am thrilled to welcome both new and returning students and families to our wonderful school community. There is something truly special about the start of a school year. The anticipation of new friendships, new learning experiences, and new opportunities for growth fills our school with excitement and possibility. Over the past few weeks, our teachers and staff have been hard at work preparing classrooms, organizing learning spaces, and planning engaging experiences for students. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and we were so excited to welcome our students back into the building.
As I begin my first year as principal, I am already inspired by the warmth, dedication, and sense of community that make View Ridge such a special place. I believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential to student success, and I look forward to getting to know each of you in the weeks and months ahead. Together, we will create an environment where every child feels a strong sense of belonging, is celebrated for who they are, and is encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
Thank you for welcoming me into this incredible community. I look forward to partnering with you to make this a successful and rewarding year for every student.
Sincerely,
Katherine Mayan
A Warm Welcome Back From Mrs. Johnson
Welcome Back, View Ridge Families!
Dear View Ridge Families,
I am so excited to welcome you to the 2026-27 school year! I am also incredibly grateful to share that I will share that I will be serving full-time as the Assistant Principal at View Ridge this year.
Having had the opportunity to be part of the View Ridge community last year, I already know what a special place this is. I am looking forward to being here every day, continuing to build relationships with our students, staff, and families and becoming even more deeply connected to our Viking community.
Before becoming an administrator, I spent many years as an elementary classroom teacher. Those experiences continue to shape the way I lead. I am passionate about creating schools where every child feels safe, known, valued, and that they feel a sense a belonging.
I am especially passionate about positive school climate, social-emotional learning, and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). At View Ridge, our Viking Values help us teach and celebrate what it means to be a kind, respectful, responsible, preserving, and honest member of our school community. I look forward to continuing this work alongside our students and staff this year.
One of the things we value most at View Ridge is our partnership with families. Please know that our door is always open. We are at our best when school and families work together in support of our students.
There is so much to look forward to this year, and I feel incredibly fortunate to continue this journey with View Ridge. Adventure Awaits, Vikings! I can't wait to see what we accomplish together this year!
Warmly,
Jamie Johnson
Assistant Principal
Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
We understand that children get sick. If your child is ill, please let us know using one of the following means to communicate your child’s absence:

A Message from our Counselor
Dear Families,
My name is Breeanna Caudill, and I will be working alongside you as the School Counselor at View Ridge. I get to work with students in many ways, including teaching Child Protection and Bullying Prevention units in classes, student leadership, and supports for social, emotional, behavioral, or attendance needs.
We were fortunate to receive dozens of new backpacks with school supplies, and we have many left to give. If your child would benefit from a new backpack, please reach out. In addition, if your family is experiencing financial hardship and would like new school clothes or resources for food, please contact me or Susmita Rachakonda, our new Family Engagement Specialist (425-385-5412).
Email is the quickest way to get in touch with me (bcaudill@everettsd.org) and I'm always happy to schedule a time to talk more or meet in person. I am grateful to be part of your child's journey this year. Wishing you a smooth start to a successful year!

A Message from Our Librarian
Welcome Back Families! It is going to be an awesome year! New books are rolling into the View Ridge Library. There is nothing like the smell and feel of a new book and watching the excitement on a child’s face. Help supply new books by purchasing a book for your child's birthday or ½ birthday.
The Birthday Book Club is a fun way to create a lasting memory for your family at View Ridge and endow our library with exciting new books. A green colored BBC paper came home last week. With an online contribution of $20, a book will be carefully selected the month of your child’s birthday (or summer half-birthday). This is a new book is chosen that matches your child’s interests. A bookplate dedicating the book in your child’s honor will be placed inside. The book is presented to the student in class so that he or she can be the first to read it before it is returned to the library collection for all to enjoy. Your child's contribution will also be acknowledged in the monthly school newsletter.
Shelf Elf applications will be offered to students in grades 3-5. Being a Shelf Elf is a big commitment like a job. Organizational skills are critical. If you are detail oriented, this may be a volunteer opportunity for you. A Shelf Elf possesses and demonstrates daily our Viking Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, and Perseverance.
Shelf Elves can help during their class check out and during a lunch recess too. The job responsibility is correctly re-shelving books, so they can be easily found and rechecked out and keeping the library operating to its fullest potential. Please tell me why you would like to be a Shelf Elf on the back and have your parents and teacher sign off. Last year’s Shelf Elves need to re-apply. Applications are due by September 25th. 2026-2027 Shelf Elves will be posted on the library door on the 28th. An orientation invitation will be sent to your child's teacher. Thank you to all who show an interest in being a Shelf Elf. Let me know if you have any questions.
Book Donations The library is always excepting book donations of gently used children’s books. These books are put directly in students’ hands through the library system, teacher’s classroom libraries or used for the Scholastic Book Fair pencil pull. Thank you for the donation consideration.
Scholastic Book Fair Parent Volunteer Support Needed If you are looking for an easy way to support your child’s school consider volunteering for a 2-hour shift at one of our book
fairs. This fall fair dates: November 2-3, spring TBD. There is also a one day, 3 hour BOGO fair at the end of the year. Please join the VRE PTA to receive volunteer invites for book fair sign-ups.
