Worthy Announcements and Work
Today, the Secretary of Homeland Security is establishing a new prevention-focused organization to better reflect the whole-of-society, public health approach we use to address targeted violence and terrorism. The Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships, or CP3, will draw on the many lessons learned over the past several years and establish a new and more stable structure for moving our local prevention mission forward.
As the linked press release notes, this is more than a name change. With the establishment of CP3, DHS is codifying the adoption of a public health model to violence prevention that recognizes lessons learned from previous experiences, both positive and negative. The creation of CP3 cements this new approach to prevention and formalizes the end to CVE-related practices. The launch of CP3 allows DHS to ensure the public and our partners understand DHS is fully committed to a public health infused approach to early prevention across all forms of targeted violence and terrorism.
