Thank you, GPTG, our awesome parent-teacher group, for spoiling the staff this past week for Teacher-Appreciation Week. We see and appreciate all that you do, from late-night set-up, food prep, and decor! You're the best!

This is just a friendly reminder that there is no school on Friday, May 22nd and Monday, May 25th. This is a four-day weekend for both a teacher-work day and the Memorial Day holiday. We hope you are able to go somewhere semi-warm to kick off the summer season!

Please click the link below for an invitation to Lebanon Middle School's "New to LMS" Parent/Guardian Night. LMS administrators and staff will be there to provide information and answer questions. Tuesday, June 2nd, 5:30-6:30.

New to LMS Parent/Guardian Night June 2026 invite

Liam placed in the top 10% of 4th graders nationally in the Math Challenge Tournament!

Congrats Liam!

Every year, families bring in some perennial favorite books to have teachers sign for a graduation keepsake. We love this tradition!

However, we ask that if you plan to do this, you bring the books in by no later than Friday, May 29th. The sooner, the better! The end of the year is extremely busy and we don't want the books to get lost in the end-of-year shuffle. Thank you for your cooperation!

The school library will be closed for business by Friday, May 29th. All books are due at this time and the last day to check out is Thursday, May 21st (Friday the 22nd is a teacher-work day).

Please make sure all library books are turned in by this time. Thank you for your cooperation!

But don't despair! Your library needs can be met this summer through the local Dunbar Free Library, which will have a summer program that all students are encouraged to participate in. More details to come!

It's that time of year again when history comes to life on the grounds of GVS. Please join us for Civil War Day on Monday, June 8th.

This is a coveted all-day community-wide event. The day is staffed by reenactors and volunteers dressed in period-appropriate attire engaging in daily activities typical of a Civil War camp, replete with muskets, first-aid tents, marching, an officers' tent, an outdoor kitchen, a graveyard, even a cannon firing! You do not want to miss this!

Volunteers are needed to make this day a success. Many of the tasks (such as cooking/baking era-appropriate food) are easily done from home ahead of time if you cannot make it to school on the day of the event.

If you are interested in lending a hand, please contact Ms. Bechta: dbechta@gvshawks.org

Good news, there is another opportunity to support your favorite local school!

Hannaford Helps School is an easy way to support GVS simply by grocery shopping as you normally would. Just download the app in the QR code and anytime you purchase an item that is labeled with the ""Hannaford Helps Schools" label, you earn dollars for your child's school.

The program runs through June 21, 2026. Flyers went home with your student in their communications folders, or see the flyers attached for more information.
