Week 28

Leader in Me Parent Survey
Due: March 20th
In case you haven't taken the Leader in Me survey, I am leaving the link here. Survey is due by this Friday the 20th.
Magnet Survey
Last week during parent conferences, your child’s magnet teacher should have shared a magnet survey with you. This survey must be completed every year.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to complete it, please use the QR codes below to share your feedback.
Use the ESM link if your child is in the Environmental Magnet Program.
Use the Gifted Magnet link if your child is in the Gifted/High Achieving/High Ability Magnet.
Please be sure to use the correct link so that your response is submitted to the appropriate program. The survey contains only seven short questions for you to rate.
Executive Function Parent Workshop
A few weeks ago, our school psychologist, Ms. Espinoza, hosted a parent workshop on executive functionings. If you missed it and would like to review and/or revisit the workshop, I have attached the recording here as well as access to her slide deck. Slides
2026-2027 Enrollment
We are currently accepting permit request forms. If you do not live within our residential boundaries, you must first obtain a release from your resident school and provide one of the district-approved reasons for the permit request.
Please note that permit requests will not be reviewed at this time. They will be time-stamped and collected for review in late April, as priority must first be given to students who live within our residential boundaries.
If you live within our boundaries and have new students to enroll, enrollment packets will be available starting April 1st.
Magnet Alert
Action Required
Last Monday, you should have received an email from the district (Addressee: ApplyBySchool) if you applied to any of our magnet programs. The email informed you that your selection or waitlist letter for the 2026–2027 school year is now available for viewing at apply.lausd.net.
Please log in to the portal to check your application status.
If you have been waitlisted: No action is required at this time.
If you have been selected: You must log in and accept or decline the offer.
Accepting the offer means you agree to move your child from their current program to the magnet program for which you applied and were selected. After accepting the offer in the portal, please come to the school office to pick up a modified enrollment packet for the 2026–2027 school year. Once the packet is completed and returned, your enrollment process will be finished.
If you applied but are no longer interested, please decline the offer in the portal so that a student on the waitlist may have the opportunity to enroll.
Science Fair Projects
Monday, March 16th
Please drop off the science fair projects today between 7:30 am - 8:00 am at the MPR. There will be tables designated for each category. Please be sure you know which category you are entering your project under. Also be sure your name is on your project and everything else you are bringing that is a part of the project. Parents, if the project requires your assistance at drop off, please don't use the valet. Park and bring the project in. Thank you!
Oreo Debate
Have you seen the new Reese’s Oreo flavor? Students will be able to voluntarily participate in an Oreo taste test “Which Is Tastier?” when they visit the library with Ms. Jennifer.
Each student will receive one Reese’s Oreo and one regular Oreo. After tasting both, students will cast a vote for the flavor they prefer.
If your child is allergic to peanuts or should not have Oreos, please remind them to inform Ms. Jennifer. We will have an alternative available for students who cannot have the Reese’s Peanut Butter Oreo. And students who cannot eat Oreos period, should just tell Ms. Jennifer, "no thanks!"
Science Fair
Thursday, March 19th
Our Gifted Magnet teachers will be hosting our Annual Science Fair Extravaganza on Thursday, March 19th. Please join us to view the science exhibits in the MPR and participate in some hands-on science activities with your children.
The Science Fair will take place from 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM. Please note that valet car service will not be available at dismissal on this day. Sign in at the main table to get your choice of a free Level Up shirt or hat. While supplies last. We will also be selling nachos and drinks.
Engagement Opportunities:
Science Exhibits (over 90 projects on display!)
Solar Bugs (student w/ parent to participate)
Owl Pellets (student w/ parent to participate)
LEGO Challenge (student w/ parent to participate)
Easter Eggs
Due, March 20th
Don't forget, we are collecting pre-filled Easter Eggs for our egg hunt next week. Here's the photo of our very first donor proudly dropping off his bag to the main office. We will have a collection basket right outside the school all week for your donating convenience.
No Valet on Thursday
March 19th
There will be no valet service at dismissal on Thursday, March 19th due to our Science Fair. Please plan to park your car and come onto campus to participate in hands-on learning activities with your Eagles. We kindly ask that you be mindful of traffic and exercise patience during dismissal. If you are not responsible for after-school pickup, please be sure to share this information with your driver. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Field Trips
We have a lot of field trips this week. A friendly reminder that field trips are like regular school days. Students are not allowed to use their cell phones on field trips and the school dress code still applies. If a cell phone is brought on a trip, it is to be turned off and remain in the backpack.
Every student received a free colored class shirt. We ask that students wear their shirts on field trip days because we will be in large public spaces. The shirts help teachers and chaperones quickly identify students in a crowd if they wander off or lose sight of the group. Please support us by ensuring that your child wears their class shirt on these days.
Parent Chaperones
We have shirts for our chaperones if you don't already have one and would like one. Please inquire with the main office. Here are the chaperoning guidelines/reminders for our parent chaperones.
- The role of a chaperone is to support the teacher and support all the students or the students assigned to your group and not just your own child.
- Chaperones will ride the school bus with the class.
- Additionally, chaperones must adhere to our school dress code. We have to model the expectations we have for our students.
- Chaperones should not be on their cell phones.
- Chaperones should not be taking photos/videos.
