Mission Statement:

The Springdale Gifted & Talented Program is committed to providing an educational program in which students will be fulfilled, productive, and contributing members of society. The unique worth, ability, and dignity of each student will be recognized and cultivated. Students need a school environment which instills in them a desire to help develop talents and abilities. To encourage optimum achievement, the school will provide varied and challenging learning opportunities matched to the needs and talents of students with high potential.

GT Word of the Month: UNIVERSAL SCREENING

The purpose of universal screening is to establish a pool of students who may qualify for gifted services. A group-administered aptitude assessment is administered to ALL students at a specific grade level.

Lawn Boy

Lawn Boy is about a 12 year old boy that was broke. Then Grandma gave him Grandpa's old riding lawnmower and set out to mow some lawns. More people wanted him to mow their lawns. And more and more. . . . One client was Arnold the stockbroker, who offered to teach him about "the beauty of capitalism. Supply and Demand. Diversify labor. Distribute the wealth." "Wealth?" he said. "It's groovy, man," said Arnold. Lawn Boy is a great book to teach our kids about economics.

A Kids Book about Belonging

This is a book about belonging. It tackles what it’s like when you feel like you belong to a group or family or team and what it’s like when you don’t. It addresses what it feels like when you don’t fit in, or when others don’t want you around. This book teaches kids how to belong to themselves and how that helps them belong anywhere.

# Powerful Task Design: Rigorous and Engaging Tasks to Level Up Instruction

This must-have resource brings together the research and strategies educators need to design engaging, powerful learning tasks. Student performance has a direct correlation to the power of the learning task - this book will help you positively impact both.

Beautiful OOPS!

For teachers or parents that have students that might be considered a perfectionist, Beautiful OOPS! is an award winning, best-selling, one-of-a-kind interactive book, Beautiful Oops! shows young readers how every mistake is an opportunity to make something beautiful. A singular work of imagination, creativity, and paper engineering, Beautiful Oops! is filled with pop-ups, lift-the-flaps, tears, holes, overlays, bends, smudges, and even an accordion “telescope”—each demonstrating the magical transformation from blunder to wonder.

UPSIDE-DOWN BRILLIANCE

This book describes the unique characteristics of visual-spatial learners and teaching techniques designed for this population. The book addresses how visual-spatial learners think and the plight of being non-sequential; the power of the right hemisphere, eye movement patterns, and engaging the right hemisphere; and the hidden culprit in underachievement, the impact of early ear infections, signs of central auditory processing disorder (capd), and accommodations for children with capd; visual spatial learners with dyslexia, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and giftedness.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Kids love learning that even though Leonardo wanted to learn all he could, he never received a formal education. Struggling to make a living in his 20s, he then moved to Milan, where he flourished. New worlds of discovery opened to him and his interests in engineering, art, theatre, and much more were satisfied. He expanded his knowledge in these fields to become a key figure in the Renaissance and an inventor whose designs of helicopters, parachutes, submarines, and many other ingenious devices were well ahead of their time. With Da Vinci's help, maybe we will ignite the passion for our students to invent something spectacular.
