Why is Coming to School Every Day So Important?
Regular school attendance plays a big role in a student’s success—academically, socially, and emotionally.
✅ Better Learning
Each school day builds on the one before it. When students miss school, they often miss key lessons that are hard to make up later. Being present helps students stay on track, understand concepts, and perform better in class.
✅ Everyday Counts
Excused or unexcused, absences affect learning. Being on time, every day, gives students the best opportunity to succeed.

Safety Drills
Every month Golden West will conduct safety drills. In addition to fire drills, here are three of our other common drills. Please discuss with your children so we are a team when preparing for an emergency.
Secure Campus
A precautionary state on a school campus caused by the potential of a threat nearby, but not on the campus. For example, if law enforcement officers are searching for a suspect in a nearby neighborhood, a school may enter a Secure Campus out of an abundance of caution. During a Secure Campus, students and staff move inside, doors are secured, and no movement is allowed between rooms without escort by safety staff. Instruction continues in classrooms. No one is allowed to enter or exit the campus. A Secure Campus allows a school to quickly transition to a lockdown if it becomes necessary.
Earthquake
At first recognition of seismic activity, staff will direct students away from windows and to initiate DROP, COVER and HOLD ON procedures. Once clear, staff and students will evacuate to designated safe locations.
Lockdown
A lockdown is a safety status on a school campus caused by the presence of an immediate threat currently on or adjacent to the campus. During a lockdown, students and staff move to the nearest available room and secure the door. All windows are covered, lights are turned off, and students and staff may take additional steps to conceal or barricade themselves in the room depending on the specific threat. Normal operations including instruction stop. No one is allowed to enter or exit the campus.
