Principal's Hello Principal's Hello

Dear Golden Eagle Families,

It was another busy week, but we're through it now and finding our pace. Thank you to all 6th grade families for your patience as we had to change many schedules. We're fortunate to get more money from the district to staff the building properly, but we also know it's disruptive to get a new schedule after being in your classes for a few weeks.

In general, students are adapting well to the PCMS way: hustling to class, staying focused, and including everyone. We pride ourselves on our positive, academic culture, and while we've had to do a little more explicit teaching to our 6th graders than previous years, they're starting to get it!

Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Sean

Please Read: Important Request from the Front Office Please Read: Important Request from the Front Office

We know that students occasionally need something brought to school during the day. However, frequent drop-offs can quickly overwhelm the Attendance Office and take staff away from helping students with attendance needs.

To help keep things running smoothly, please limit drop-offs to items that are truly necessary for your student to have during the school day. Whenever possible, please encourage your student to remember their belongings before leaving home.

If you do need to drop something off:

  • Clearly label the item with your student’s first and last name and grade.
  • Leave the item with the Attendance Office.
  • Remind your student to check the student pick-up cart throughout the day if they are expecting something.

Having students check the pick-up cart themselves helps reduce interruptions to the Attendance Office, allows our staff to focus on assisting students who need them, and encourages students to be more independent and responsible for their belongings.

Help Keep Our Music Programs Flourishing: Donate to Fill The Nest Help Keep Our Music Programs Flourishing: Donate to Fill The Nest

There is currently a regional shortage of musical instruments, and PCMS is in need of purchasing additional instruments for our students. Your donation can help us provide the instruments our students need to participate, learn, and continue growing through our music programs.

Keep an eye out for our donation banners in the school’s drop-off and pickup line and scan to make a donation.

You can make a one-time, tax-deductible gift (tax ID# 47-4312566) by completing a donation form at the front office or donating online through PayPal or Venmo using the QR codes below.

iPads Going Home: What Parents Need to Know iPads Going Home: What Parents Need to Know

As part of our commitment to intentional technology use and balanced learning, and in accordance with school board policy, student iPads remain at school unless a specific, pre-approved exception applies.

To help clarify when an iPad may or may not be sent home, please review the guidelines below:

When an iPad MAY be approved to go home:

  • Extended Medical Absences: For medical-related, long-term absences where required coursework cannot be completed without the device.

  • 504 Plan or Special Education Accommodations: As part of an established individual learning or accessibility plan that mandates home access. Contact your case manager with any questions about this accommodation.

  • Specific Course Requirements: Rare cases where a special project or assignment explicitly requires the use of a school-issued iPad.

When an iPad will NOT be sent home:

  • General Routine / Day-to-Day Homework: Standard homework assignments are intentionally designed to be completed without requiring a district-issued iPad.

  • Short-Term Illness: A short absence due to illness does not automatically warrant sending an iPad home. In some cases, a teacher may approve sending the device home only if it is strictly necessary to complete essential coursework that cannot be done on a personal device, workbook, or paper.

  • Extra time: The student did not use their assigned class time to complete an assignment on the iPad, and the teacher did not grant explicit permission at the conclusion of class for the iPad to go home.

If you believe your student has an exceptional circumstance that requires bringing their iPad home, please contact your student's teachers directly so they can evaluate the request.

If your student misses work due to an absence, your student should speak with their teachers and use Study Hall time on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday Advisories to catch up. Teachers will decide if bringing the iPad home is appropriate for making up missed work due to an absence.

Thank you for your partnership in supporting balanced and focused learning habits for our students!

Upcoming Lockdown Drill Upcoming Lockdown Drill

On Tuesday, October 6th we will be running our fall lockdown drill at PCMS. All the drills we do are not only required by Oregon law, but they prepare staff, students, and our community on how to respond in the event of an emergency. We take these drills seriously, and we expect our students to take them seriously as well. There is no opt-out option for this drill. 100% of our students and staff will be participating in the drill on October 6th.

Next week students and staff will get a refresher lesson on protocols regarding a lockdown by watching a Standard Response Protocol video in Advisory. During our drill, Bend Police Department will be on site to support our efforts.

You can find more information about Standard Response Protocol (SRP) in this guide.
