CSI Updates CSI Updates

As the school year begins to wind down at Mayfair, the Community Schools Initiative (CSI) team would like to thank our students, families, staff, and community partners for their continued support. We also wanted to share a few recent campus highlights and updates celebrating the positive work happening across our school community.

  • On May 5th, CSI hosted a “Teacher Thank You Letter” event during both middle school and high school lunches. Students took time to write thoughtful messages of appreciation and gratitude in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week. It was inspiring to see so many students recognize the educators who make a difference every day

  • In April, the CSI team secured a $1,000 Smart & Final allocation to help promote positive behavior, celebrate student achievement, strengthen peer leadership, and support a positive school climate at Mayfair. Ms. Cruz and Mr. Lopez coordinated the collection of supplies and resources that will support several student-centered programs and events across campus, including the Minga Store, Caring Connections, the College & Career Center, counseling activities, and additional community events

  • Through PTSA funding, Mayfair successfully implemented the PBIS Certificates campaign throughout the entire school year. Each month, more students were recognized and rewarded for positive behavior, academic achievement, and stewardship.

PBIS Certificates Recognition Highlights:

  • +25% of Mayfair students in grades 7–12 were recognized by their teachers

  • More than 19,000 Minga points were awarded to students

  • 16 middle school and high school students received gift card incentives

CSI Survey Participation Data (as of May 8):

  • Students: 737 responses (32%)

  • Parents: 79 responses (3%)

  • Staff: 44 responses (34%)

CSI would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Mayfair community for allowing us to support Mayfair’s mission and vision over the past two years. It has truly been an honor to learn alongside, assist, and share space with such incredible students, families, and staff members. We are grateful for the relationships, memories, and impact created together, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate the success of the Mayfair community.

We encourage everyone to keep language clean and family-friendly, show school spirit without noisemakers or music, and acknowledge the hard work of both teams. Let’s focus on encouragement rather than criticism. Spectators who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the event. Together, we can create a welcoming atmosphere for our students and families.

Physical Fitness Testing: Grades 7 and 9 Physical Fitness Testing: Grades 7 and 9

Parents and students of grades 7 and 9 at Mayfair Middle/High School are encouraged to be aware of the upcoming California Physical Fitness Test (FitnessGram), which will take place between February 1 and May 31. This state-required assessment helps students understand their overall physical fitness while promoting lifelong healthy habits. During the test, students will participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities that measure aerobic capacity, strength, endurance, and flexibility. The results are used to support student wellness and to help the school evaluate its physical education program. Please note that, as a state-mandated assessment, there is no opt-out for the Physical Fitness Test, and all eligible students are expected to participate. Families are encouraged to support students by reminding them to try their best and maintain a positive attitude throughout the testing period.

Dress Code Reminders Dress Code Reminders

As the weather begins to warm up, we want to remind everyone of the importance of adhering to our school dress code to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all. Clothing must cover undergarments at all times, and students should avoid wearing sheer, low-cut, or overly revealing attire, including excessive midriff exposure. For safety, appropriate and protective footwear is required at all times. Additionally, clothing and accessories should not disrupt the educational environment, and items such as hats, hoods, and beanies must be removed indoors. We appreciate your partnership in helping maintain a positive and focused school community by ensuring all students follow these guidelines each day.

Reminders Reminders

Listed below are just a few important reminders (PLEASE READ):

  1. Mayfair Middle/High School does not permit any drop-offs or deliveries of food or other items. Please ensure that your student is prepared for the day when coming to school in the morning with their lunch, supplies, money, etc.
  2. Dress Code. For the 2025-2026 school year, we are trying to prepare our students for college and career ready with a dress code. Students will not be allowed to wear any inappropriate clothing which includes the following: No sheer, low cut, revealing blouses, bare midriff, or braless outfits, bathing suits, beach attire, tight or revealing, or strapless garments. Please be sure that your student follows the dress code and wears appropriate clothing and accessories. Also, students may not bring blankets to campus. Click here to access Mayfair's Dress Code Policy.
  3. No returning back to campus. If a student has an early release (7th or 8th period), once the student leaves campus, they may not return to campus during school hours. Parents - please ensure that your students are going home early if they have the early release. Note: Students who have a "home" period, must leave campus by the end of lunch, and are not allowed to remain unsupervised. Please review your students schedule so that you are aware when they will be leaving campus early (prior to 3:35).

School Policies School Policies

Bikes/skateboards/ scooters

Students will not be allowed to have bikes, scooters or skateboards on campus. There are designated lock areas on the north and south ends of campus for students to securely store them during the school day. Riding and even walking them through campus presents a safety concern. Students are expected to pick up their belongings at the designated areas, and exit campus. Students are also required to walk their Bike, scooter or skateboard until they are completely off campus, which includes walkways and parking lots. Our goal is to insure safety for all students, we appreciate your support in upholding these expectations at home.

For the safety of all students and staff, riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards on campus is not permitted. Once students reach the school curb, they must walk their bikes and skateboards at all times. Motorbikes are not allowed on campus. All bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be properly locked to a designated bike rack only and should not be attached to gates or left in front of the school. Items left or locked outside of campus have been stolen in the past, and the school is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Safety is a shared responsibility, both on and around campus. Students are expected to be cautious when crossing streets, follow all traffic and crossing rules, and use designated crosswalks. We have had students hit by cars this year, which underscores how important it is to stay alert and make safe choices when arriving to and leaving school. Taking these precautions helps protect not only individual students, but our entire school community.

Mayfair Middle/High School students will utilize the app called Minga as a digital ID card. The app enables staff to create hall passes, reward students for doing well and helping others, and the digital ID card will help students have an easier time entering or leaving campus. The digital ID has a "live" interface, with a running digital clock and a moving background, thus preventing students from using a screenshot [Screenshots of ID are not permitted]. Students will utilize their school email (via Google) to log in. The app is safe to use, uses very little data, and doesn't require access to any of the information stored on your phone. If your child does not have a smartphone, don't worry - they will receive a printed ID card as well. Click here to access a quick document that shows you how to log into your school's Minga account.
