Halloween Parade Brings Smiles to Mercer

Mercer School students from K–12—and even a few of our littlest learners from the infant/toddler program—brought Halloween spirit to town this week during our annual costume parade! Led by the Iron County Sheriff’s Department, the festive group made their way through Mercer’s downtown, waving to families, community members, and local businesses along the route.

The event wrapped up with trick-or-treating hosted by Faith Lutheran Church, where students enjoyed sweet treats and plenty of smiles. Thank you to our local law enforcement, families, and community partners for helping make this fun tradition a safe and memorable one for our students!

Building a Culture of Partnership

What is Connections?

At Mercer School, we are committed to fostering a culture where partnerships, belonging, and positive relationships thrive. That’s why we are proud to highlight "Connections: Linking Community and Curriculum", a vital initiative aligned with our strategic priority of Culture and Community.

The goal of this initiative is simple yet powerful: to bring together students, staff, families, and community members to create a supportive and welcoming environment. By encouraging active participation from all stakeholders, we are working to achieve a shared vision of success that benefits everyone.

Through "Connections," we aim to:

  • Build strong partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and families.
  • Foster positive relationships within the school and beyond.
  • Ensure that all voices are heard and included in decision-making processes.
  • Create opportunities where community expertise enriches classroom learning and vice versa.

This initiative is not just about collaboration—it’s about creating a culture where every student, staff member, and community partner feels valued and empowered to contribute to our shared vision. Together, we can build a brighter future by linking what we do in school with the resources and strengths of our community.

We invite you to join us on this journey. Whether by volunteering, sharing your expertise, or attending school events, your involvement makes a difference. Let’s work together to strengthen our connections and create lasting opportunities for our students and community!

This Week's Community Connections:

  • Iron County Sheriff: Thanks to the Iron County Sheriff's Department for leading the Halloween parade on Friday. Our students had a great time showing off their costumes for the community.
  • Mercer Businesses: Many Mercer businesses supported trick-or-treating downtown in Mercer on Halloween. It was fun to see many of our students visiting the local businesses.
  • Mercer Lions Vision Screening: Our local Mercer Lions Club has been trained to perform vision screening for students. The screenings aim to identify issues that may require referral to an eye care professional.
  • NorthLakes Clinic: Our community partners at NorthLakes Clinic provide dental screening for students who have a permission slip on file.
  • Associated Bank: Part of ensuring our students are college and career ready is providing opportunities for students to learn about careers that are available in our community. Professionals from Associated Bank will present to high school students on careers in banking.

September Attendance

Congratulations to the following classes for maintaining an attendance rate of 95% or higher

  • Ms. Holly Duensing's K4/K Class
  • Ms. Maddy Brown 's 1st Grade Class

OVERALL K4-12 GRADE ATTENDANCE RATE: 91.9%

Attendance Matters

For children and teens, attending school isn’t just about getting an education. It’s about developing their whole selves—emotionally, socially, and personally.

Attending school regularly and in person gives students the ability to follow daily routines, as well as connect with friends, peers, teachers, and others outside their family circle. They’re able to engage and interact, to use their brains and try new things. They can be part of a team. They have a purpose.

Help your child be their best self. Promote good attendance.
