Beckham Blast
Update from Mrs. Dassing-November 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Bengal Families,
Fall is officially here, and October gave our Bengals plenty to roar about in academics, the arts, and athletics! Playoffs are underway, second-quarter progress reports are just around the corner, and the clocks have fallen back even if our calendars show no signs of slowing down.
As temperatures cool and the holiday season approaches, we have an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and what we hope to accomplish next. One of the greatest privileges of being an educator is watching young people grow right before our eyes. Our Bengals give us reasons to be proud every day through their hard work, creativity, determination, and compassion.
That commitment extends well beyond our classrooms. From supporting blood drives to reading with elementary students, our Bengals are giving their time and talents across the Lowcountry. They are putting the I’s of the Tiger—Intelligence, Integrity, and Involvement—into action and showing that being a Bengal means making a difference.
We look forward to a strong finish to Semester 1, with plenty of learning, growth, and Bengal pride still ahead. The holiday countdown may be tempting, but we still have important work to do—and our Bengals are up to the challenge!
Thank you for being such an integral part of our Beckham family. If I can assist in any way, please reach out directly at anna_dassing@charleston.k12.sc.us.
Your very proud principal,
Mrs. Dassing
LBHS is a Palmetto's Finest Candidate
Each year, there is an application process by which a school can apply to be recognized as a SCASA Palmetto's Finest School for the state of SC. Beckham applied and we made it to the next step of getting a visit from the Palmetto's Finest Committee. Our visit is scheduled for a day in early December and we will be sharing additional information as we prepare to show them all the great things happening at LBHS! Just getting a visit is a huge honor and we look forward to the next steps! Last year we were named as finalist and are going for it again this year! Please let me know if you are interested in seeing our application or want to help us prepare for the visit! Palmetto's Finest here we come!

Attendance Matters!
Keep it Under 5!
While we often focus on academics, we would be remiss if we did not underscore the importance of good daily attendance. SC Law has outlined attendance parameters and we follow those in CCSD. We are here to help answer any questions you may have and want to remind you of the following:
All absences require a written explanation from the parent/guardian within three (3) school days of return from the absence. Written explanation of absences must include the student's name, parent/guardian's full name, parent/guardian's signature, date(s) of absence(s), and documentation of the reason for absence(s). Please use the MBA Attendance Monitor in your Parent Portal and submit electronically to beckhamattendance@charleston.k12.sc.us.
Absences in excess of ten (10) days per year will not be considered excused with a parent/guardian note unless they are accompanied by official medical or legal documentation.
If your student needs to leave school early, we have a process for that too. You can find all this information on our website https://lucybeckham.ccsdschools.com/parents-students/attendance-office

Senior Updates
Individual Graduation Plans have started!
Individual Graduation Plans have started!
The School Counseling Department is excited to have done Senior IGPs and have started 9th grade Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings in the next couple of weeks. Parents should hear from their student's School Counselor soon with instructions on signing up for their IGP meeting through Calendly. Yearly IGP's are required meetings with School Counselors for students and their parents/guardians to discuss future planning. Students will not receive a pass or reminder for their meeting at school so parents should communicate meeting details with their student. Our School Counselors look forward to talking with you soon!
Keep up with All Things Beckham!
