Letter from the School Committee
The rhythm of life can be ironic and complementary. As we close out the calendar year, we simultaneously approach the midpoint of our academic year- a time for reflection and renewal. For the School Committee, this is a chance to look back on 2025 and an opportunity to step confidently into 2026, refreshed and ready to resume our work.
We’ve just finalized our annual goals, which align perfectly with the spirit of New Year’s resolutions. In the months ahead, we look forward to continued progress in several key areas: developing a responsible and student-centered budget that reflects the needs of both our learners and our town; advancing our policy review and development efforts, including the creation of a new Athletic Policy; and strengthening our coordination with the Superintendent, as well as with other town boards and initiatives.
As we enter this season of transition, we wish you rest, reflection, and renewed energy for all that lies ahead.

Elementary School Building Project Update
With town approval for funding for the Feasibility Study, the School Building Committee has begun its early work with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). Over the next several months, the committee will review enrollment trends, and educational priorities. This phase is focused on gathering data, and engaging the community. The next School Building Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 15th. All meetings are open to the public and agendas are posted on the Town website.
Mental Health Check-Ins
As we head into the winter months, it’s helpful to check in with children about how they’re feeling and to remind them that asking for help is a sign of strength. Simple questions like “Did anything feel stressful or overwhelming today?” or “Is there something you wish you could get help with?” or “What feeling showed up the most for you today?” can open the door to meaningful conversations.
These small, regular check-ins help normalize seeking support and ensure students know they’re not alone. For additional guidance on talking with kids about stress, visit the American Academy of Pediatrics’ resource page: HealthyChildren.org/stress.
Using Data to Help Every Student Grow
At this month’s meeting, the educators shared an overview of how Data Cycle Meetings are being used across all schools to strengthen teaching and learning. These structured, collaborative sessions bring teachers, administrators, and specialists together to review student data, identify strengths and needs, and plan targeted instruction and interventions. By establishing consistent data cycles at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, Ipswich is ensuring earlier identification of specialized student needs, more aligned instructional practices, and a shared responsibility for supporting every student’s growth.
