Outdoor School Delayed Until Spring

Outdoor School Delayed Until Spring
Outdoor School Delayed Until Spring

Dear students and families,

We’ve previously shared that we are negotiating a new contract with the Portland Association of Teachers (PAT), which is the union representing our educators. A strike by PAT could close schools as early as October 23, but we continue to work together toward a fair, sustainable contract.

Given the possibility of a strike, though, we must make some precautionary adjustments. One of these is outdoor school.

We’ve decided to reschedule outdoor school trips scheduled for the weeks of:

  • October 23 - October 27 (Ceasar Chavez and MLC)

  • October 30 - November 3rd (Robert Gray, Lane, and Access)

These sessions will now take place in the spring, and we will provide more information about the new dates when the information becomes available.

We know this will disappoint some of you, but we again want to reassure you the sessions are being rescheduled. We want to ensure all sixth grade students have the opportunity to attend outdoor school, and rescheduling these weeks to spring is the safest way we can do that.

Best,

Dr. Jon Franco
