POSITIVITY PROJECT
Dear Families,
This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Love of Learning. Love of learning means enjoying the process of learning new things, whether in school or on your own.
People with a love of learning are motivated because they find joy in learning itself, not just for rewards like grades or prizes. They are driven by the excitement of discovering and mastering new skills.
Developing a love of learning is important for students because it helps them stay motivated and engaged. It can also improve their mental and physical well-being as they take pride in overcoming challenges and growing.
To practice and encourage the character strength of Love of Learning at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
Thank you for your support!
DOGS ON CAMPUS
We would like to remind families that dogs are not allowed on campus at any time, including during drop-off and pick-up. Recently, we have seen an increase in dogs being brought onto school grounds during these high-traffic times. While we love our furry friends, this policy is in place to ensure the safety and comfort of all students and families. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe school environment.
LOST & FOUND
This is a friendly reminder that our Lost & Found is overflowing with coats, lunchboxes, water bottles, and more! If your child is missing something, please have them check the Lost & Found before the end of the week. Any unclaimed items will be donated after Friday to make room and help others in need. Thank you for your support!
DIGITAL ATTENDANCE REPORTING
Beginning Monday, March 2, Poway Unified School District will expand the use of Parent Digital Attendance Reporting across all schools following a successful two-year pilot program.
This new option allows families to submit absence information directly through their existing Parent Portal account. By logging into the secure portal, parents and guardians can quickly report a student’s absence without needing to send a handwritten note or leave a voicemail. Because families authenticate through the Parent Portal, the system automatically verifies the adult’s relationship to the student and creates a secure record of the submission.
Please note:
Digital reporting is an additional option for families.
Traditional phone calls and existing attendance reporting methods will remain available.
Absences must still meet district and state criteria for excused absences under California Education Code.
This enhancement supports our commitment to improving efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in attendance reporting across the district while making the process more convenient for families.
Instructions for submitting a digital absence are available by clicking HERE.
Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring your child’s regular attendance and success.

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
Please note the following important information regarding Level 2 Volunteer status:
If you were approved as a Level 2 Volunteer for School Year (SY) 2024–2025 and have not submitted a Volunteer Application for SY 2025–2026, your Level 2 status will not be extended for SY 2025–2026.
As a result, you will need to complete the fingerprinting process again in order to obtain Level 2 status for SY 2026–2027.
The District does not retain fingerprint records indefinitely. Volunteers must submit a Volunteer Application each school year to maintain and extend their Level 2 status. If a Volunteer does not follow this annual renewal process, their information is removed from the District’s database.
CONTINUING STUDENT REGISTRATION OPENS
March 2, 2026-March 31, 2026
This enrollment window is for students currently enrolled in Poway Unified schools in grades TK-11. A digital registration packet must be completed for ALL currently enrolled students, whether your child(ren) are returning or leaving the district next school year.
If your family is not returning to PUSD for the 2026-2027 school year, please complete the online packet for your child(ren) to let us know. We’ve simplified the process this year: once you select the "No, we are not planning to return next year" option, the form will automatically skip to the end for a quick submission. It only takes a moment and greatly helps us with our planning for the upcoming school year.
Completing the Continuing Student Registration process will allow for proper placement of your child(ren) for the 2026-2027 school year as well as appropriate release procedures for those who will not be returning. For full instructions on this process, visit the Continuing Registration webpage.

REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES
If your child will be absent, please be sure a parent or legal guardian reports the absence.
You can report absences in one of the following ways:
📞 Attendance Hotline: 858-487-2059 (voicemail available)
📧 Attendance Email: wwesattendance@powayusd.com
When calling or emailing, please include the following information:
- Your child’s full name
- Teacher’s name
- Reason for the absence
- If your child is ill, please include symptoms or any confirmed illness (such as strep throat or influenza)
