Week of April 5th, 2026

Weekly Message
Dear Keystone Families and Staff,
We hope you are having a wonderful spring break!
Last week, Keystone was inspired by the motivational presentation by Autism Advocate and public speaker Ben Hartranft. We hope Ben's message of inclusion, acceptance, diversity, and kindness was inspiring for all.
We also celebrated Autism Acceptance with a "Blowing Bubbles for Autism" event, organized by Mrs. Mattis. A big thank you to her for organizing this wonderful event for the third year in a row. We’re excited to continue to make it an annual tradition here at Keystone.

PSSA “Opt Out” Procedures 2025-2026 School Year
Section 4.4 of Chapter 4 of the State Board of Education regulations provides for the right of any parents or guardians to excuse their child from the state assessment if, upon inspection of the testing materials, they find the assessment to be in conflict with their religious beliefs. Please note that this is the only basis for a parent or guardian to excuse his or her child from the statewide assessments.
Parents/guardians requesting that their child be excused from the PSSA or Keystone Exam must adhere to the following procedural guidelines:
- Within two weeks of the date the child is to participate in the PSSA or Keystone exams, parents/guardians must contact the Mr. Wilicki (mark.wilicki@bristoltwpsd.org), to arrange an appointment to review the assessment(s) by completing this survey; PSSA Opt Out Survey
A Parent/Guardian may only request a secure assessment review if they believe that they may have an objection to content based upon their religious beliefs.
- The opt-out request is only in effect for religious reasons and not moral or ethical reasons. If opt-out is not for religious reasons, the test must be marked as parent refusal.

Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child, a dedicated time to honor the resilience, sacrifices, and unique experiences of over 1.6 million military children. It highlights the challenges of frequent moves and parental separations while celebrating their strength.
Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month
April is Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and support for the millions of people living with limb loss or difference, encouraging understanding, acceptance, and celebrating their strength and resilience.
SWPBIS Electric Tiger Scooters
Through a School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) grant, Keystone Elementary School has obtained tiger-themed plush electric animal scooters to be used as part of our student reward and incentive program. These scooters are intended to provide students with a fun and motivating way to celebrate positive behavior, responsibility, and academic achievement.
Students who earn this reward may have the opportunity to ride a plush electric animal scooter within designated, supervised areas of the school building under the direct supervision of school staff. Scooters will only be operated at low speeds within defined areas. Protective protocols are in place to minimize risk. Parent waiver will be required for participation.
Early Dismissal Procedures
If your child needs to be dismissed early, please send the request in writing at the start of the school day (by 9am) by emailing your child’s teacher and Keystone.attendance@bristoltwpsd.org.
For the safety of all students, parents/guardians/caregivers must present a valid photo ID when arriving to pick up a child.
Please note that early dismissals after 3:00 PM cannot be accommodated unless there is an extreme emergency. Last-minute changes during this time can create confusion during our dismissal procedures, and this guideline helps us ensure a safe and organized dismissal for all students.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our students safe.
Attendance/Early Dismissal Email Address
Please use the following email address for absence and early dismissal notes;
Keystone.attendance@bristoltwpsd.org . Always make sure to include your child's teacher as well, so they are aware of the absence or early dismissal.

Nurse's Corner
As we push through the remainder of cold and flu season please remember to follow these guidelines of when to keep your student home from school.
- Temperature of 100.4 or higher. The student should be fever free without the use of medication for 24 hrs before returning to school. If your child is sent home from school with a fever, they should not be returning to school the next day.
- Repeated episodes of vomiting or diarrhea.
- Red, itchy eyes with a crusty yellow/green discharge. The student should see a physician as this could indicate pink eye and the student would need to be on antibiotic treatment for 24 hrs prior to returning to school.
- Sore throat with white patches present on the tonsils. This could indicate strep throat and needs to be treated by a physician. The student should be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning from school.

What is MTSS?
MTSS stands for Multi-Tiered System of Supports, and it helps schools give students the help they need to do their best. It’s a way to find kids who might be struggling and give them extra support early on. MTSS doesn’t just help with schoolwork—it also helps with behavior, social skills, and making sure students come to school regularly. All students are checked to see how they’re doing, and kids who need help get it through different levels of support. For example, if a student starts in a small group but still needs more help, they might work one-on-one with a teacher or in a smaller group. The goal is to make sure every child gets what they need to succeed.
MTSS Handbook - A guide for all educators, administrators and staff to help support students improve in academic, behavior, and attendance areas.
MTSS Brochure - A quick introduction to our approach to supporting all students learning needs.
MTSS Podcast -Explains how MTSS supports all learners

What is Title I?
Title I is a project funded by the federal government under the Every Child Succeeds Act. The purpose of this Act is to provide all children with fair and equitable opportunity to succeed and close achievement gaps. Money is allocated by the federal government and distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to the Bristol Township School. District.
Title I funding is based on a complex formula. These funds are allocated to the states who in turn allocate a portion of that money to the individual school districts within each state. The school district’s share is based on the economic need within a school area, that is, by the number of low income families living there. In our district the number of free and reduced lunch students is used to determine the economic need of a particular school.
