Welcome from Principal Drew Wood

Hello Raider Families,

It is hard to believe, but we are coming up on a year now of life and education during COVID-19. This past year has not been an easy one, but as hard as it has been I still find myself loving the greatest job on Earth; principal of Northridge High School. During this past year, I have had the opportunity to watch our young people work through new and frustrating problems no one would have predicted. Our students have developed grit and resilience this past year and after close to thirty years in education, I can say that student kindness and understanding for one another is the best I have ever seen it. I have faith in our students and know that they will be looked upon as another great generation!

Thank you for taking the time to read our updates from Northridge High School! It is our hope that this newsletter is an easy source to go to for current NHS information.

Digital Citizenship for Families

4 tips to boost kids' safety, privacy, and security

1: Use privacy settings: check privacy setting on apps and device

2: Read the fine print: are apps selling, storing, or keeping info

3: Discuss online scams, clickbait, and "special offers.": tell-tale signs: misspellings, poor grammar, photoshopped logos, pop-ups and quizzes

4: Understand how tech companies make money: how digital devices, social media platforms, apps and games get paid: selling ads or selling user info

February's Raider Impact Award Winners

In February, we recognized three students who received the Raider Impact Award. NHS staff members nominate students for this award when they see a student shine by doing the right thing, being kind to others, helping someone, or generally sharing positivity! This month we are proud to share pictures of Tiffany Roa (senior), Macee Woodworth (sophomore), and Jacob Knowles (freshman).

Jacob Knowles (Freshman)

Mrs. Bontrager nominated Jacob and shared a story about him finding $50 cash and a phone in her classroom that belonged to another student. Jacob demonstrated great integrity by immediately giving the phone/money to Mrs. Bontrager so that she could find the owner.

Macee Woodworth (Sophomore)

Mr. Anderson nominated Macee and said, "I continue to see Macee make special efforts to foster and develop positive relationships with her peers. She will go out of her way to pay compliments or to just ask somebody how their day is going. It's little things like these that make students like Macee so nice to have in class."

Tiffany Roa (Senior)

Mr. Logan nominated Tiffany and said, "Tiffany is my Block 1 TA. She went to the restroom and returned to tell me that there was a gal in the RR and she was hysterically crying. She came back and told me her concern because she had been in this gal's shoes before. We sent a female aide back to the RR and she got the gal the help she needed. I was very impressed by her compassion for a gal she didn't even know. Well worth this award!"
