September is Attendance Awareness Month
Get Up, Show Up, Build Up
Berkeley County Schools is encouraging all students and families to Strive for Less Than 5 Absences! Our goal is to have students in school every day, learning, growing, and celebrating together. This month at Winchester Avenue, students are participating in BUILDING BRIGHT FUTURES TOGETHER; an activity that celebrates each day your student is present at school. Each student will be provided with a GET UP, SHOW UP, BUILD UP block house. The blocks represent the days of school in the month of September. Each day a student is present, they will color in the block that corresponds to the date. Students will earn special recognition when they attend five, ten, and twenty days of school. Our goal is to have all our students present in school every day!
As your student plays an important role in their classroom, your support in reinforcing regular school attendance is essential to their success. We are partners in your child’s education. Thank you for helping them build a strong year!
Winchester Avenue students will complete a house each month.

Safety Update
Raptor Visitor Management System
The Raptor Visitor Management System is a secure check-in tool used by schools to ensure student safety by instantly screening all adult visitors against national databases
🛡️ Why the School Uses It
- Student Safety: It ensures the school knows exactly who is in the building at all times.
- Custody & Access Control: It checks the school’s internal database for local alerts, such as active restraining orders or specific custody arrangements, ensuring students are only released to authorized individuals.
- Public Database Screenings: It quickly references the national sex offender registry across all 50 states.
📋 What Happens at Check-In
- Present a Valid ID: Parents must bring a government-issued photo ID (like a driver's license, state ID, military ID, or passport) to the front office or kiosk.
- The "Toaster" Scan: The front desk staff or kiosk scans the ID barcode. This takes less than 30 seconds.
- Information Pulled: The system only reads the visitor’s name, date of birth, photo, and partial ID number.
- Get a Visitor Badge: Once cleared, the system prints a temporary sticker badge featuring the individual's photo, name, date, time, and specific destination in the school. This badge must be worn visibly while on campus.
