Canaan MiddleSchool UpdateSeptember 29th, 2023

Principal Corner

Canaan Families,

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our 5th and 6th-grade parents who attended our recent Parent/Guardian Night. Your presence and engagement are greatly appreciated as we work together to support our students' education.

Parent Teacher Conferences

If you haven't already done so and you would like a parent teacher conference, please contact your student's homeroom teacher or use the links that have been sent out via email and TalkingPoints to get signed up!

Cookie Dough Fundraiser Update

We would also like to express our gratitude for your outstanding support and effort during our Cookie Dough fundraiser. Your contributions make a significant difference in our school community. Just a friendly reminder that order forms and payments are due on October 3rd. Mark this date on your calendar to ensure you don't miss the deadline.

Upcoming Delivery Date

We're excited to announce that the anticipated order delivery is scheduled for November 6th. You can pick up your items between 2:30 PM and 6:30 PM on that day. Please make arrangements to collect your orders during this time.

Unity Day on October 19th

Mark your calendars for Unity Day on October 19th! This day promises to be full of fun and engaging team-building activities focused on communication, collaboration, and teamwork. Our students will have the opportunity to participate in various challenges, games, and activities that emphasize the importance of working together as a group.

Each grade level has sent out information regarding volunteer opportunities and teamwork involvement for those of you who would like to be a part of this exciting day. We're thrilled to see our students put into action the values we emphasize at Canaan Middle School—kindness, caring, and respect.

5th Grade Update

Social Studies just wrapped up their tools of geography unit and we are moving into the 5 Regions of the United States. We will be learning our states in the next couple of weeks with the hopes of having our test before the end of the first quarter! Learning capitals of states will be extra credit for students who are up for the challenge.

In math, we have wrapped up Unit 1 (Multiplication and Volume). On Wednesday/Thursday, we took our first test of the year. We will definitely continue to work with these concepts as the year progresses! Eventually, we will get to the standard algorithms for both multiplication and division but that will be down the road. Moving forward, our Unit 2 focuses on Adding and Subtracting Fractions. We will start with basic fraction concepts, move into adding/subtracting fractions with common denominators, and finally learn how to add/subtract fractions with uncommon denominators. Please be sure to check Canvas to make sure all assignments are turned in. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!

We are also looking for a few parent volunteers and donations for Unity Day. If you are interested, please click on one of the signup links. Thank you!

If you are unsure or need to get one, please contact the central office. Click here if you are able to help out. This is a fun teamwork filled day with lots of laughs and smiles- lunch will be provided! Thank you in advance.
