Campus Visits

Thank you for trusting us each and every day with your child. It is our #1 priority to ensure they have a successful learning experience at our school. Our campus is a very special place!

If you are planning on visiting our school please be prepared to show identification. We are a closed campus and will be very strict with checking identification prior to visitors entering. This includes arrival and dismissal if entering our school. All visitors must enter through the front doors and will wait in the foyer until identification is properly checked.

Thank you for your partnership.

Important Dismissal Information

Dismissal is our communities time to shine. School is dismissed at 3:45 pm. Through kindness and patience we can ensure a safe environment for our students during our dismissal process. We need your help being good neighbors and maintaining safe driving conditions during our dismissal time. Our staff works hard to efficiently load cars while ensuring the safety of each and every child. And, we need to keep the traffic on the roads near campus moving. We need your help making this happen.

Pick Up Number

  • All families will receive a pick up number even if you child rides the bus. The pick up number is only used for pick up and not for bus riders. Families that have multiple students will have the same pick up number for all of their children.
  • This number quickly allows our staff to tell which child is being picked up and helps maintain safety. Numbers will be given out at the Back-To-School Night and during the first week of school at the front office.

If you are picking up your child in a car:

  • Please do not arrive on campus before 3:30 PM. Arriving earlier than 3:30 PM creates a safety hazard.
  • Please consider carpooling to ease the number of cars on campus.
  • Place your pick up number in the front window on the passenger side.
  • Please stay in your car and wait patiently while your child walks from class to the car zone. Once your child gets to the car zone we will assist your child to your car.

If your child is a walker:

  • Discuss with your child a safe route to walk home. We suggest families utilize the backgate near the baseball field or the sidewalk near the post. If you are meeting your walker please wait for them off campus. We will no longer allow parents to wait near the car zone or bike rack. The area between the flagpole and carzone will be for staff and students only.

If your child is pick-up at the playshed:

  • Meet at the playshed gate where a staff member will enter your pick up card.
  • At 3:40 pm we will start dismissing students to the playshed.
  • Please avoid the area between the flagpole and the car zone. This area is designated for staff and students only.

If your child is a bus rider:
  • It is highly recommended that students ride the bus to eliminate traffic in our community. If your child rides the bus they will remain in class until their bus arrives. If your student is on a late bus they will be monitored by support staff engaging in various activities until the bus arrives.
  • Please remind students that riding a bus is much like riding in the family car, we are SUPERSAFE and follow our safety guidelines.
  • No parking is permitted in the bus zone.

As a reminder, having more families carpool, walk, or have their children ride the bus will reduce the number of cars entering campus, which should allow the buses to enter campus sooner, load sooner, and leave sooner. We appreciate your patience and support.

Safety Measures

We are making a few adjustments during dismissal which may impact the way you pick up your child. We will no longer allow visitors to wait for their child near the car zone/bike rack. This is a high traffic area of our school for students getting home and need all adults to stay outside the staff/student zone to allow for students to safety depart. If you have an emergency or need to go to the front office we ask that you use the crosswalks located within the parking lot by the flagpole.

Our bus zone is for authorized vehicles only. We have added signage and cones in our bus area to eliminate the flow of unauthorized vehicles. It is imperative that families do not park in our bus zone so that our school buses can enter and exit with ease. We suggest parking in our parking lot or off campus at The Post. We will no longer have access to our parking lot through our bus zone.

If your child is a walker, we encourage you to practice a safe route to walk home from school. It is suggested that students walk home from school through the back gate near the baseball field or the sidewalks near the post. You may wait for your child at the back gate or the post if you choose to have your child walk and would like to meet them.

Thank you for your assistance ensuring safety for all Explorers!

Appointments & Dismissal Changes

If your student is taking a different route of transportation after school than their normal dismissal, to ensure the safety of your child, you must call the front office to let them know. 253.891.4500. We ask that you call before 2:30 pm as this helps get all our changes to the teachers in a timely manner.

If you plan to take your student out for an appointment or out early before dismissal time at 3:45 pm, please call us a few minutes before you arrive so we can greet you! We do ask that you have your ID ready to go when you pick up your student. Our office staff will gladly call your student down so that they are ready when you arrive on campus.

Car & Bus Arrival

Keeping students safe is our highest priority. Riding the bus will be your student’s quickest way on and off the DEE campus. We anticipate that 400 students will arrive by car each day-- a tremendous amount in a small area. We encourage you to carpool with other families as much as possible.

Car Riders: If you drive your child to school, we need your help making the car's morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up as safe as possible. Please help us ensure the safety of your students by using the designated loop. And, please stay in your car until greeted by the staff.

  • In the morning, 15 minutes prior to and until the start of the school day, there will be staff members meeting and directing students. For your child’s safety, please do not drop students off until staff supervision has arrived. .

  • If you arrive after the start of school, please park and walk your child to the office to check in.

Buses

  • Bus Stop Lookup Tool: The most up-to-date information is on the SBLSD Transportation page. Please follow this link to find the latest information on bus routes.
  • Waivers: While a condition of waivers is that District transportation is not provided, we have made exceptions in the past if a bus is not full. This year, however, our buses will be full and we are unable to accommodate students on waivers. Families will need to provide their own transportation to and from school.
  • Bus passes: We are unable to allow students to ride a different bus when wanting to, for example, go home with a friend or be dropped off at a grandparent's house.
