What Our Parents Say...

Chris Leon & Karen Enriquez

Daughter in 4th and Son in 7th Grade

It is truly a community with amazing parents, teachers, and staff. It is diverse in many respects. Cultural and religious diversity is at the very core of true education, in my opinion. The Franklin Academy is accepting of all religions and all faiths are celebrated. Our school, with its small class sizes, is able to offer more individualized education for each child. A rigorous curriculum with an equal emphasis on social/emotional growth. A school that is giving each student high standards; an opportunity to excel and be challenged. We appreciate our kid’s excitement for learning. It's been the best decision for our family.

The Reading Corner with Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Samuel

Tuesday, May 4th is our big Book Fair day at Village Books!

Come buy books and other fun items, and 20% of the profits will go towards new books for our libraries. Heather Black and Treasure Samuel will be handing out forms on Monday and Tuesday at morning drop off.

Village Books will also have form copies at the stores (both Fairhaven and Lynden).

What’s extra great about this book fair day is that you can also order online if you are too busy to visit in person, or are a grandparent or donor who is not in the area! All you have to do is write in the Comments Box at the end of your order that it is for the Franklin Academy book fair (this will only work on May the 4th).

The Village Books website is: https://www.villagebooks.com/

As always, feel free to email Mrs. Samuel at tsamuel@thefranklin.academy if you have questions.

Mrs. Snyder has appreciated your help in setting up the library courtyard at Robin Hall! Special thanks to Courtney Conner (yard word and plant donations), Mallory Buechler (yard work), Nancy Haley (benches donation), and PALS (pillows and flags donations) for their help!

Please enjoy the attached pictures.

Happy Reading,

Mrs. Samuel and Mrs. Snyder

Mrs. Pickerill's Pre-Kindergarten Class Shares How They Can Help the Earth!

Last week we planted Zinnia seeds to celebrate Earth Day. For our writing/drawing journal prompt I had asked the children to finish this sentence.

“I can help the Earth by...”

Anaya: "cleaning up all around the Earth. I will go on walks with my dogs and family."

Brooks: "cleaning up Target bags and broken bikes. Also, re-using regular bags at the grocery store."
Cosmo: "cleaning up my bedroom."

Emaline: "going on a walk with my puppy."

Jena: "planting flowers in my garden with my family."

Owen: "picking up garbage and recycling."

Samara: "planting flowers and throwing away junk."

Weston: "recycling and throwing away garbage in the right bins."

What do The Giving Tree, Obi Wan Kenobi, and waste management have to do with each other?

Our Chaplin Aaron Walters shared: What do The Giving Tree, Obi Wan Kenobi, and waste management have to do with each other? Environmental Stewardship, of course!

This has been our focus this month in chapel. Using the premise that God has entrusted humanity to care for creation, we have considered our role in living more lightly on the land.

We read and discussed books like I Am Earth, The Giving Tree, and If You Plant a Seed, considering how the decisions we make have an impact on both our planet and the relationships around us.

In the middle school chapel, we had a guest on Zoom, Anthony Brocato (brother of our own Director of Finance & Operations Casey Brocato). It has been a fun month in chapel, including a few corny Earth Day jokes along the way (Q. What did Obi Wan Kenobi say to the tree on Earth Day? A. May the forest be with you).

Kindergarten visited Pre-School This Week!

Mrs. Dizon's Kindergarten Class visited Mrs. Mellos' Pre-School Class this week. Nelly, one of our bright Kindergarten students, read a book to the entire group! The pre-schooler students were attentive and very impressed!

Mrs. Owen's Class Learned About the Layers of the Earth!

Mrs. Owen's shared this:

"We really enjoyed our Nature Walk/Scavenger Hunt around school and planting our Wild Flowers

A little dirt won't hurt! We did a lot of digging to collect a variety of organic matter to make our Sediment Jar. First, we collected bark, leaf litter, lichen, moss, soil, dry dirt, mud, rocks and sand. Next, we sorted it all out. Then we mixed it all together.

Finally, we dumped it into a jar filled with water. Over time the sediments fell from lightest to heaviest.

This is a great visual that shows how rocks and Earth have compacted layers. Cool!"
