Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
We do not have school on Monday, January 19th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which the school honors not just as a day off, but as a "day on" for reflection and community service. By connecting Dr. King’s vision of justice and character to our students' daily lives, we aim to inspire them to use their voices for good and continue building a supportive, inclusive school community.
Warm Regards,
Emily Loerakker
Fremont MS Principal

8th-Grade Dance Committee
We are excited to start planning for this year's 8th grade Graduation Dance. The dance, a send-off for our 8th graders, is a Fremont tradition and requires the time and talent of many individuals to pull off.
If you are interested in being part of the planning committee, please join us for the first planning meeting on Wednesday, January 21st, after the PTO meeting in the Den at Fremont Middle School. The meeting will start at approximately 6:30 pm.
At the 8th Grade Dance Planning Meeting, we will be deciding items such as the dance theme and activities. We will also be looking for individuals to head up areas such as Decorating, Snacks, and creating a Slideshow, 7th-grade parent volunteers, to name a few.
If you cannot make the meeting but would like to help plan the dance, please contact Stacie Brown at sbrownn14@gmail.com.
Not interested in planning, but still would like to help? No worries, there will be plenty of opportunities to contribute. Please look for future dance correspondence.
Hope to see you Wednesday, 1/21, around 6:30 pm in the Middle School Den!
Graduation Speeches - Informational Meeting February 5th!
Next month we will begin the process of finding this year’s 8th-grade student speakers for the graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 3rd. The role of the student speaker is to deliver a speech or spoken word that reflects their collective experiences, expresses gratitude, and offers encouragement for the future. It is an honor to be chosen for this role.
There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested during Flex on Thursday, February 5th, in DEN 6. Please check in with your Flex teacher and create a pass to come to the DEN.
The following is information about the speech/spoken word requirements:
Speeches/spoken words are due by Tuesday, February 17th at 8:00 am. in the Class of 2026 Google Classroom. After submission, they will be judged by a panel of staff members. Three finalists will be announced by Friday, February 27th at 3 p.m.
The finalists will be chosen based on the following criteria:
Content
Reflect on your experiences at Fremont
Express gratitude to teachers, staff, parents/guardians and classmates
Provide words of encouragement
Share personal anecdotes or stories that resonate with the audience
Highlight achievements and diversity of the class as a whole
Offer advice for the transition to high school and beyond
Conclude with a powerful and memorable statement, leaving a lasting impression
If you are selected as a finalist, you will be required to submit a video of yourself giving the speech/spoken word to accompany your typed speech/spoken word. The video will be due by Monday, March 9th at 8 am. The winner will be announced by Monday, March 16th at 3 pm.
If you are selected for this honor, you will be required to work with a staff member for additional practice and preparation.
Please let Mrs. Larson (hlarson@fsd79.org) know if you have any questions.
8th-grade Graduation Gown Ordering - March 2nd Deadline!
It is time to prepare for the upcoming 8th-grade graduation. One important component of graduation is gowns. The gowns will be sent home prior to the ceremony with care instructions and will be yours to keep after they are worn.
Please fill out the following form with your graduate’s information. This is required by Jostens and will ensure the appropriate size is ordered for each student. We ask that this be completed by Monday, March 2.
The 8th-grade graduation ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the College of Lake County Physical Education Center. Wednesday, June 3 will also be the last day of school for all 8th-graders and will be a full day of school.
More information regarding graduation, including student speaker opportunities, admission tickets, and the 8th-grade dance will be shared in the coming weeks/months. Look at the Fremont Family Newsletter for updates. Students can also access information from the Class of 2026 Google Classroom. Heather Larson am the graduation advisor for the 2025-2026 school year so please feel welcome to reach out to hlarson@fsd79.org with any questions in the meantime. Thank you!
