Cohasset High School Newsletter
News and Happenings at Cohasset High School
April 17, 2026
Dear Families,
I spent the beginning half of the week as a member of a visiting team working with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the independent organization that accredits both public and private schools in New England. It's a voluntary commitment, comprised of educators and administrators, and it allows me to both provide an outside perspective on their school performance and provides an opportunity to steal ideas that might work for us in Cohasset.
And as many things that are going on in other institutions that are absolutely commendable and structures and systems that may be more efficient, I always walk away from these meetings grateful for our faculty, our students and our community. So as we enter into vacation week, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the continued excellence that our students continue to demonstrate, some of which is continued to be documented in this newsletter and reflected in the recent presentations by Challenge Success.
The levels of rigor to which students are held, the effort that the students themselves put in, and the continued commitment to honest reflection and collaborative improvement is strong in our community. The commitment to doing the best for our students, and the resources dedicated to them is something that I don't take for granted, and it's to be acknowledged and celebrated as we enter the last quarter of the year.
In this newsletter you will see accomplished artists and scientists, budding politicians, and independent learning projects that go beyond the scope of our Program of Studies. You will see attention paid to student stress and academic balance, accomplished athletes, students committed to the well-being of the generation behind them . . . students who have created their own paths to success while maintaining fidelity to the characteristics outlined in the Vision of the Graduate, led by caring teachers who recognize strengths in them that they may not recognize in themselves. These are truly impressive achievements.
Thank you for what you bring. Thank you to our educators,. And especially thank you to the students who take advantage of the opportunities that are provided to them. As we continue to grow and improve, there are certain conditions that we have created as a community, and it's those conditions that create the foundation for success.
Thank you for helping us co-create those conditions.
Have a wonderful, safe, and restful break.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Scott
Principal
Bus Loop
We have seen an uptick in people dropping off on the main driveway in the morning. Please leave this clear for busses as traffic before 8:15 can create unsafe conditions for students and faculty.

Congratulations to Nora Kahn

The Power of Play(doh)!
In alignment with the Strategic Plan, Mr. Riggs' classes visited the preschool with Ms. Marinelli. Students made play-doh and played with the younger students in a great inter-generational experience.
To Advance or Retreat?
In The Art of War, Sun Tzu suggests that sometimes it is better to "retreat a yard" than to advance an inch, using tactical withdrawal to entice an enemy or gain a better position. On April 9th, Ms. Stromberg and Ms. McCarthy led a group of 16 students on retreat at JPH Ferry Hill in Marshfield, sponsored by Safe Harbor. Following the retreat, students reported lower levels of stress, increased awareness of ways to manage stress that do not involve technology, and improved connectedness to school. An excellent day!
Dissociation with Anna Thomae
Last Friday, junior Anna Thomae presented her research on dissociation, an independent study project that she completed under the advisory of Dr. Duncan. It was a wonderfully researched and thorough presentation.
The State of the Harbor is Strong!
On Thursday, April 9th, several students from across the South Shore presented their research projects at the annual State of the Harbor event, the culminating event of research performed over the summer and throughout the school year in collaboration with the Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research.
Leading the Way in Environmental Stewardship
Katie Kenneally presented her findings at the James Pener Environmental Stewardship Conference at Thayer. An excellent set of presentations to educators, scientists, and fellow student scholars.
In addition, our own Ms. Cerruti was invited as one of 68 (out of 78,0001) faculty members to present at the DESE Sharing For Success Dissemination Fair on May 20th in Devens, MA. She was Civics panel by Katherine Tarca, the Senior Director of Literacy and Humanities at DESE, who wrote "The librarian at Cohasset MS/HS has a robust climate and environment-focused civics project that she facilitates".
Congratulations to Katie and Ms. Cerruti!
