Principals Message
Dear Golden Hills Families,
💛 Family Engagement
At Golden Hills, we truly value the strong partnerships we have with our families! Family engagement is all about the many ways families support their children’s learning at home, at school, and in our community.
Research shows that when families are actively involved in their children’s education, students are more successful. We are excited to continue building this partnership with you and creating opportunities for families to be involved in our school community!
🍎 Parent Teacher Group Meeting
We would love to see you at our next Parent Teacher Group meeting on September 16th from 3:00–4:00 PM at Golden Hills. The PTG meets only 4–6 times throughout the school year to help plan fun activities and special events for our students and staff.
Come join us, share your ideas, and learn more about the ways we can work together to make Golden Hills an amazing place for our students! Your voice and support make a difference. 💛
Our first big project will be helping organize our Color Run, a fun and exciting event that also supports our school! We would love to have families join us and help with the planning.
🎨 Our BIGGEST Fundraiser is Here!
Our Golden Hills School Color Run is coming up on September 17, 2026, from 2:00–2:45 PM! This is our Parent Teacher Group’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and the money raised will help support field trips and other important school activities.
Students can also earn some awesome prizes! 🎉
💵 $10 raised: Sunglasses
🎨 $25 raised: Bonus Color Blast during the event
👕 $50 raised: Golden Hills T-shirt & a popsicle
Money is due by September 4, 2026, so that we have enough time to order the correct T-shirt sizes.
🏆 BONUS CHALLENGE: The student who raises the most money for our school will win a field trip to Foster’s Freeze for lunch with the principal and two friends! 🍦
Important: If your student raises $50 or more, please make sure you provide their T-shirt size so we can order the correct size.
Thank you for supporting our school and helping make this fundraiser a success!
Golden Hills Homework:
Golden Hills students receive a weekly learning packet each Monday. Completing the packet is optional, but it is a helpful way for students to strengthen the skills they are learning in class.
The reading passage in the packet connects directly to the work students are doing in class. Practicing the passage at home can help students build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and participate more successfully in classroom discussions and activities.
Families can support reading practice by having students:
📖 Read the passage aloud each night.
⏱️ Practice fluency by noticing how many words they can read accurately and smoothly.
🎭 Work on prosody, including expression, intonation, and phrasing to make their reading sound natural.
💬 Talk about the passage and ask questions about what they read to encourage comprehension and discussion.
Some teachers may also send home math practice pages. These are optional and do not need to be returned to school. They are simply another opportunity for students to practice and strengthen their math skills at home.
We encourage all students to read and practice math facts each night. In addition, any classwork that a student does not complete during the school day may be sent home and is considered homework.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your student’s learning and continued growth! 💛
Mark Your Calendars:
Our first ever District Community Advisory meeting will be on October 13th from 4:00-5:30 at the District Office, dinner will be provided! Please consider attending to help make our district the best it can be!
TEAM Expectations
Students are learning our Golden Hills TEAM expectations:
Take Responsibility
Earn Respect
Act Safely
Make a Difference
Families, please help reinforce these at home—especially by reminding students to keep hands to themselves and use kind, school-appropriate words.
If your student shares a concern with you, you can report it directly through our website: Golden Hills Report Link. Reports go straight to me, and I will follow up with you.
Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or concerns.
Together, we make Golden Hills a great place to learn and grow!
With appreciation,
Kristi Napoli

Attendance Matters:
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
If students are going to be absent they can do independent study.
🎉 Attendance Matters at Golden Hills!
Every day at school is an opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and have fun! Our goal is to maintain 95% or higher daily attendance, and we are excited to share that we are currently at 95%! 🎉 We are so close to making our goal—and we know we can do it together!
If your child needs support with attendance, please reach out to us. We are happy to partner with families to help students get to school consistently.
📚 Need to Miss School?
Remember, Independent Study is available when your student needs to miss school—even for just one day. Please contact the office for more information and details about how Independent Study works.
🏆 Attendance Rewards
We are excited to celebrate our students and classes for making attendance a priority!
🍦 August: Students who missed fewer than 2 days in August were celebrated with a popsicle!
🧱 September: The class with the BEST attendance will celebrate with a LEGO Party
🎃 October: The class with the best attendance will enjoy a Halloween Science Party!
🔦 Trimester 1: Lasermania! We are excited to celebrate students who demonstrate strong attendance throughout the first trimester! Students who attend 90% or more of school days from August through November 6th will be invited to Lasermania, our awesome Laser Show on November 19th! This means students must have fewer than 6 absences, whether excused or unexcused.

Students need to check the lost & found! It is helpful if you write your students name on sweatshirts, lunch boxes, etc..
Wellness Center Message
School Counselor
Did you know we have a Wellness Center? The Wellness Center offers a food pantry, clothing and hygiene products, community resource hub, reset space, small group and individual counseling services, breakfast and lunch bunches, access to our School Counselor and Wellness Coach, and computers that parents can use. This resource is for everyone to use throughout the year.
Our school uses RULER as our social emotional learning curriculum. RULER is also an acronym for the skills of emotional intelligence: Recognizing emotions, Understanding emotions, Labeling emotions, Expressing emotions, and Regulating emotions. Research from the field of emotion science finds that children who understand and manage their feelings make more responsible decisions, have stronger relationships, and perform better in school. The middle school is also using this same curriculum. This will help with consistency across grade levels.
The Wellness Coach and School Counselor will be providing RULER lessons in the classroom throughout the year. In the month of August we talk about the importance of emotions. We identify 4 different areas that emotions impact (thinking, physiology, expressions and behavior). We teach students how to identify these different areas. We want our students to know that emotions impact how we do in school and the world. Please join us in having these conversations with your child.
Our school sends out a school belonging survey every 6 weeks to see how connected students are feeling at school. The survey asks 6 questions; 1. Do you feel like you have at least one classmate that cares about you? 2. Is there an adult at school who cares about you and that you can go to when you need help? 3. Do you feel like you belong at Golden Hills? 4. Do I get a chance to make choices about my learning? 5. I feel important at Golden Hills? 6. Adults at Golden Hills know me and know what is important to me? 7. Adults at Golden Hills listen to my ideas and opinions. The Wellness Coach or School Counselor check in with all of the students who score 50% or lower on this survey to see what we can do to better support them.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email rwalker@palermok8.org or phone at 530-532-6000 ext 4601.
Sincerely,
Rainbow Walker
