Message from Principal Nicole Pease
Thanks too, to the PTO for the watermelon and popsicles! It makes the heat more manageable!
One of the best parts of the day is when we line up as a school, recite the pledge, and sing our school song or a patriotic song. This is a long standing tradition that I participated in as a student myself at DCS.
Please reach out if you have any questions, Nicole
Kind Kindergarten and First Graders
Super Second Graders
We are so fortunate to be able to have Cornucopia again this year. First graders plant the garden beds in the spring and then get to harvest them in the fall. Thanks to the abundance of rain this summer, the gardens are doing wonderfully. This week the students made observations in the garden while they explored each bed. We even got to enjoy a freshly picked lemon cucumber at the end of class.
A holiday that we try to remember each year is Patriot Day (September 11th). We've been reading books that explain a little bit of what happened on September 11th, 2001, but most of our books focus on the helpers. There were so many helpers who stepped up to help during a very difficult time in our country. We are taking time to remember our community helpers in Dublin as well as reflect on how we can be helpers here at DCS.
Terrific Third Grade
The Third Grade is building their classroom community, getting to know their new Teacher, and integrating their two new students into their group. This week, for Social/Emotional Learning, the children created Hopes and Dreams, thinking about what they envision the year to look like and what their goals for their learning are this year. They started our unit with an emotions sort for Zones of Regulation to review the different zones.
The children began to read Horrible Harry Returns to Third Grade. As a group, they worked on comprehension questions along with cause and effect in the story. The children wrote letters to Mrs. Garland, telling her a little about themselves.
The class started their new Math curriculum by reading, creating, and analyzing graphs. For science, the students thought about what “Scientists Do” through a fun activity using the skills of observing, collecting data, and reviewing. The Weather and Climate unit started this week thinking about what the children know and what they want to learn.
Fun in Fourth and Fifth Grade
We have been taking advantage of the outside classroom for learning. It is nice to have this option to add flexibility to our day.

After school Library programming update
The Dublin Town Library is currently in the process of hiring a new director, they are planning on continuing the after school programs as soon as they are able. Stay tuned and we will let you know when that will begin.
DCS collects aluminum can tabs for "Tabs for Taylor"
Taylor is 15 years old and has been a patient at Shriners Hospital since birth. She has benefitted greatly by receiving prosthetics and her family gives back by collecting can tabs. The can tabs go to purchasing items for patient care. Taylor is the niece of Sarah Precourt (Mrs. Hopkin's daughter).
DCS has been collecting tabs for years and countless students and their families have contributed to this effort. Please send in any tabs from aliminum cans and we will add them to the collection. Thank you!
