ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

Parent Education Night- Sept. 14 from 6:30pm-7:30pm

On Monday, September 14, we will be hosting a special parent education event at Rehoboth. We know that paying Christian school tuition is a sacrifice for families, and we’re going to be joined by financial experts from Pinnacle Bank for a presentation called, “How to Save and Budget for Christian School Tuition.” This session will be of great value to all parents and tuition-payers at Rehoboth. The presentation will run from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the LC of the high school, and parents who come will earn two parent volunteer hours. Food will be provided as well. Look for information next week about RSVP’ing for this event.

TABLE TALK TABLE TALK

What’s important to you?

I mean really important to you. The kind of thing you’re willing to devote time to at the expense of other activities.

We know that here in New Mexico, a major problem is that many kids can’t read at grade level. We can spend a lot of time trying to understand and quantify the reasons for that disparity . . . or we can work hard on the solutions that can help close that gap.

By far the biggest “bang for your buck” in terms of improving student reading levels is for parents to read to and with their children.

That’s true for any age. Storytime is not just for young kids in early elementary grades. The impact is also strong for preteens and teens as well.

And did you catch the most startling part?

The positive results happen in families where parents read with their kids, not just to their kids. That means you can sit in the same room reading different books, and you’ll still be helping your children grow and excel.

Books give us things to talk about together, often highlighting opportunities for parents to share their values with their children. They build vocabulary and critical thinking skills. They help create a safe environment in the home and allow for our brains to detox from all the screen time they can get exposed to otherwise.

And the investment?

20 minutes per day.

That’s right, just 20 minutes each day . . . Do I sound like an infomercial here? That’s not a big commitment. It’s less than one episode of your favorite sitcom. It’s shorter than the time it takes to make and eat a meal.

But the impact is powerful.

Like a lot of the paths to success, it’s not a secret what it takes to get there. The main reason that we don’t achieve these goals is that we aren’t always willing to put in the work that’s required. What would it look like if every family at Rehoboth Christian School set aside 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week, to read together?

I think the results would be dramatic . . . and not just in the classroom.

So what do you think? Want to try to do something great together this year?

Let’s read as a school community and see where it takes us.

If you need ideas about the kind of books to read, consult with your child’s teacher or Mr. Yazzie, our librarian, and tell them what your interests are. They will be able to give you some great recommendations.

Together,

Dan Meester

Note from Admissions

As we wrap up an incredible first month of school, our community has fully settled into its rhythm and is looking forward to some meaningful upcoming celebrations. During this season, we are proud to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Additionally, on September 30th, our school will participate in Orange Shirt Day to honor residential school survivors and reaffirm our commitment to healing, reconciliation, and the belief that every child matters. Keep an eye out for detailed event announcements and schedules coming soon!

Multicultural Committee

We invite you to make a meaningful impact in our school community by joining the Multicultural Committee! This committee meets regularly to share ideas, celebrate our rich cultural diversity, and plan engaging events that enrich our campus environment. By participating in committee meetings and helping out with special events, parents can conveniently earn required volunteer hours while connecting with other families and making a lasting contribution to our school. If you are interested or having any questions, please contact Kristen Rousseau krousseau@rcsnm.org, Brenda Mike bmike@rcsnm.org or Maureen Bia mbia@rcsnm.org

Parent Volunteer Program (PVP)

Family involvement is a huge part of what makes our school community so special! Here is a quick refresher on volunteer hours: Each family is required to complete 10 volunteer hours per school year. Anyone can volunteer from your family (Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts…etc). Any remaining balance for incomplete hours will be billed to your final tuition payment at the end of the school year.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Looking to get a head start on your hours? We have immediate openings available:

  1. Home Sports / Admission Gate: Assist at home athletic events. Sign Up for Home Sports Gate

  2. Lunch Servers: Help serve lunch to our students. Sign Up for Lunch Serving

Thank you for your partnership, dedication, and support as we begin another great school year together. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need assistance with re-enrollment, tuition, or financial aid! Contact Kristen Rousseau, Admissions Director at 505-726-9628 or by email at krousseau@rcsnm.org

Grade Reports

Please look for your student’s grade report in your email on Monday afternoon. These are great snapshots into your student’s classes and performance. Do be aware that all of those grades are fluid as the quarter progresses, and encourage your student to change what needs to be changed and keep going where they are doing well. The end of the first quarter is Friday, October 9. That might seem like a long time from now, but time will go quickly; please encourage your students to do their best right now.

Fall Carnival

The fall carnival is Friday, October 2. This is a great fundraiser for our music programs. The choir will be touring this Spring, and the carnival will greatly aid that tour. Please look for ways to volunteer or support the carnival.

Advanced Placement Classes

Rehoboth offers several advanced placement classes, and if your student is in 11th or 12th grade they might be in one of these classes. Advanced placement classes take their exams in early May, and those exams are written and graded by the College Board. The exams also come with an additional fee, and that fee is $99 for students who pay full price for lunch and $63 for students who receive free or reduced lunch. The fees are not due until the Spring, but it is good to know they will be coming soon. Students are currently signing up for the exams in their AP classes.

Counselors Available

Rehoboth is blessed to have a social/emotional counselor, Mr. Ensign, and an academic counselor, Ms. Lynch. Mr. Ensign and Ms. Lynch are wonderful resources for students who are struggling with the transition to high school or the transition back to school. If you feel your student might need the services of a counselor, please reach out to Mr. Ensign densign@rcsnm.org or Ms. Lynch camillalynch@rcsnm.org with your concerns.
