A Note from your Principal A Note from your Principal

Dear Clark students, staff, and families,

Welcome to October! I cannot believe how quickly this school year is going! Our seniors have been having various professionals come in to help with college and scholarship applications, colleges have been on campus so younger students can start planning, and there's excitement about the upcoming fall dance, bingo night, trivia night, and many more fun activities.

While time is flying and days are packed, make sure to take some time to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the moments. I will be away Monday making some memories with my family and off Tuesday as well, but our amazing team is happy to help with anything in my place.

With gratitude,

Dr. Judd

💙 October 1st marks the beginning of Bullying Prevention Month. Studies show that approximately 1 in 5 students report having been bullied at school, but the effects of bullying are felt by all. 21.6% of students report having been bullied online or by text (cyberbullying). Students who have been bullied are more likely to experience depression and anxiety disorders, self-esteem issues, health complaints, decreased academic achievement, and increased engagement in high-risk behaviors (e.g. smoking).

In observance of Bullying Prevention Month, we are encouraging all students and staff to wear blue on Monday, October 5th for Worldwide Bullying Prevention Day to demonstrate their commitment to being an Upstander, not a bystander. Throughout the week we will be participating in the #NoOneEatsAlone challenge, calling on students to ensure no one eats lunch alone.

The Plant and Citrus Sale has begun. The poinsettias make amazing holiday gifts as the grower we use in Boynton has incredible plants that people in the community come back for year after year. And those families and friends up north really love the gift of FL citrus! The herbs are also high quality and at the affordable price, if you kill a few like Dr. Judd, it's ok!

Mental Health Minute

🧠Did You Know...?🧠

In addition to Bullying Prevention Month, October is also host to World Mental Health Day (October 10). According to the World Health Organization, "The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health." To promote mental wellness, try integrating these three practices:

  • Connect with a healthy support system. Spend time with friends and family with whom you can share your thoughts, receive feedback, and process big feelings.
  • Make sleep a priority. Sleep deprivation impacts one's ability to regulate emotions. Go to sleep and wake up at consistent times, avoid caffeine in the early afternoon, and avoid screen time before bed.
  • Mind your mental. Recognize and challenge negative thoughts, focusing on more positive, adaptive beliefs. For example, instead of saying "I'm never going to get this stuff done. It's too much!," think to yourself "I will tackle one task at a time. I can start small and work my way up." The way you speak to yourself matters.

Parents can help support bullying prevention efforts by recognizing the warning signs of bullying, encouraging their children to speak up when experiencing or witnessing bullying, and creating dialogue at home about the effects of bullying. See the attached handout for strategies.
