Student Drop-offs and Pick-Ups
During drop offs and pick-ups it is vitally important that what we will call "Lane 3" stays moving/open. Please see the diagram below to identify areas where you can park, with your blinkers on, to get your child or drop them off.
Arrivals:
- The morning drop-offs are going really well! Just as a reminder, doors open at 7:30, school starts at 7:45! Please don't park in the lane closest to the school, SOUTH of the fire hydrant, this is reserved for busses and families dropping off with students in wheelchairs. Those that need to park, need to do so NORTH of the fire hydrant in Lane 1 or 2.
- For afternoon pick ups, you can double park with your blinkers on Lane 1or Lane 2 NORTH of the fire hydrant. You can also park on 16th, or 18th street. We cannot have you park in Lane 1, SOUTH of the fire hydrant. This is reserved for busses and for families picking up students in wheelchairs.
- We also need to keep Lane 3 moving. In the event of an emergency, we have to allow first responders access to our building or through Miller Street. PLEASE don't leave your car parked in this lane

Tuition Based After Care (Not a mandatory program)
Tuition Based Program--Not Mandatory! Tuition that is charged covers staffing and supplies!
More information can be found HERE
This year’s after-care program can no longer be sustained with funding from our school. We will implement a tuition based parent paid program model to cover the salary for supervising staff and supplies for the program. The goal of this program is to provide an opportunity for our working parents to have reasonable access to child care here at school. Students enrolled in this program will have to be able to work independently and need minimal additional supervision.
After-care Payments: We are working on the ability to make online payments through a credit/debit card directly to Jungman...THIS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE BY TUESDAY! We will also accept cash and issue receipts to parents.
Full payment for the After Care program is due by the midpoint of each quarter.
If you pay in full by the first day of the quarter, you receive a discount. This quarter we extended the date until Friday, September 6th for the families that are waiting to pay by card. Also notice that we discounted the rate for students who will participate in OST and After Care if paid by 9/6/2024!!!
There are no additional pro-rates for people needing a limited number of days
An additional fee of 5.00 per 10 minutes for students picked up after 5:00.
Family Max fee: 3rd Sibling + no charge (family defined as siblings having 1 same guardian)
Beginning of the Year Forms
ALL forms must be returned to the office by the end of next week. Paper copies went home this week, and below is a digital copy of the forms we have access to in English and Spanish. Each form is very important. However, the forms listed below are especially essential to get in ASAP!
- Emergency Forms: There will be times when we need to contact parents. You must update the parent's contact information. In addition, please include EVERYONE (even if you use the margins of the paper) who can pick up your child. IF an adult is not listed on the emergency form, we cannot release the student to that adult! Also, if there is an issue where we should NOT be releasing a student to a person OR there is an order of protection, please indicate that on these forms!
- Health Form: This is not the physicals and immunization records that are due by October. This form lets us know that your child has a medical condition we should be aware of (Asthma, allergy, diabetes, etc.) When you submit this form, the nurse will ensure we have all the necessary support for your child.
- Media Consent: All students must submit this form. Without this consent, we cannot take pictures of your child or showcase their pictures, projects, etc.
- Family Income Form: Parents---THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! The district uses these forms to identify how much Title 1 Federal funds we receive in our budget. Please don't think that you don't make enough or too much! We need everyone's form returned to ensure we get the maximum amount through Title 1 funds.
Attendance Updates! Our Goal is Every Student, Every Day!
Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
This year, we are closely monitoring student attendance with the goal of reducing the rate of chronic absenteeism from its current 39%—which is 10% above the state average—down to 15%.
Below is a chart showing our attendance for week 1--
SHOUT OUT TO 4th GRADE! Great attendance all week!
A student is deemed chronically absent if they miss more than 10% of the school year, which equates to 18 days, regardless of whether the absences are excused or not.
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
If your child is having issues with attending school regularly, please reach out to Ms. Sarah VanWolvelear at sevanwolvelear@cps.edu immediately to discuss supports and a plan!
Counselor Corner!
Hello! My name is Ms. Van and I am the school counselor at Jungman. This is my second year as the counselor and I am so excited to be back at Jungman with all our incredible students! I work with all students PreK through eighth on social emotional skills. I teach lessons in all classrooms about emotional regulation, problem solving, conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, and future careers.
In middle school specifically, I also teach lessons on the high school application process. I work closely with all eighth grade students on researching high schools, applying, and accepting offers. I also run small groups with students who may need additional support outside the class lessons as well as meet one-on-one with students for counseling. I talk to students about topics such as grief, anger management, transitions, managing anxiety, and much more!
If you feel that your child would benefit from additional social-emotional support please feel free to email me at sevanwolvelear@cps.edu. From that email we can set up a phone call or in person meeting to discuss any questions or concerns you may have! I look forward to working with you all this year!
Parent Engagement
MOST IMPORTANTLY! If you are going to help us, you need to fill out and be an approved Volunteer! Once your approved, we have some special "SWAG" for you! Start that volunteer process HERE. We need you to be at least a level 2 volunteer.
Local School Council: (WE NEED 2 MORE PARENTS)
- Comprised of parents, community, educational, and student members, LSCs serve as an important vehicle for participatory democracy, providing a wide variety of stakeholders an opportunity to make important decisions about how students in their communities will be educated.
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC):
- Each academic year, schools establish Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) to bring together parents/legal guardians, teachers/staff, and community stakeholders to work with their school principal in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the Title I Program. PACs empower parents to inspire and assist their children in achieving educational goals and graduating from elementary and high school.
Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC):
- Bilingual Advisory Committees (BACs) empower parents of English Learners (ELs) to participate in their student's education and advocate for the academic, social, and cultural development of all ELs.
The Eagle Alliance Movement (TEAM):
- Hi, We’re so glad you’re here! We’re creating fun events that bring us together as a community while also raising funds to help keep our school operating with all the extras we love like technology, aquariums, give-aways and more! Come help us create our next big event!
