Overlook's Bi-Weekly Update - April 10, 2026
🦅 From the Principal’s Perch
At Overlook, we view correcting behaviors as important teachable moments. Our goal is always to help students learn from their choices while maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. We have also noticed that many students benefit from additional movement and brief breaks throughout the school day. When possible, we are working to thoughtfully accommodate these needs in ways that support both student well-being and strong instructional time. At the same time, consistency and structure remain key to student success. Clear expectations help students thrive. One example of this is our “one student at a time” bathroom expectation, which helps ensure safety, reduces missed instructional time, and keeps students focused on learning.
We appreciate our families’ partnership as we continue to balance flexibility with structure to support all learners.

Students participated in a schoolwide Kindness Flower activity, reflecting on how they show kindness and ways they can continue to grow. Their completed flowers are now displayed on the library windows, creating a colorful showcase of the positive impact our students have on one another each day. 🌼
⭐ Featured Student Writing: Holocaust Memorial Day
By Eila Jannoni
Yom HaShoah is known as a national memorial holiday in Israel, though many Jewish communities around the world also commemorate and observe the day. It was established in 1951 as a day to reflect on and remember the tragic events of World War II. The name comes from Hebrew, translating to “Holocaust Remembrance Day.”
The date falls on the 27th of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, meaning it occurs sometime in April or May. This year, it takes place on April 13–14. This date was chosen because it is near the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which also took place between April and May and lasted 27 days.
On this day, Israel’s Prime Minister and President give speeches and flags are lowered to half-mast. Many Jewish people, including survivors and their families, light six candles to represent the approximately six million Jewish victims who died during the Holocaust.
It is a time of mourning and reflection, when people come together to remember those who were lost. Whether veterans or innocent civilians, the lives lost during this time should not be forgotten.
