Dear GUMC Families,

Welcome to October! As the crisp autumn air settles in and the leaves begin to change, we are reminded of the beautiful ways God updates and refreshes His creation. It has been an absolute joy watching your children grow, make friends, and also settle into their classroom routines over the past month.

To our parents and care-givers, we want to sincerely THANK YOU for your cooperation in helping your children learn the routines for arrival time by having them use the bathroom and wash their hands. Thank you for being so positive and encouraging them as they transition into the classroom. You really do make the difference! Thank you for partnering with us and entrusting us with your precious children. We pray that this season brings your family peace, laughter, and an abundance of blessings.

We have a lot going on this month beginning with our all-school Gaver Farm Field trip! Please find information about it, and our other exciting activities and events below.

In His joyful service,

Miss Kim

October 1st - Whole-School Gaver Farm Field Trip!

Our whole-school field trip to Gaver Farm will be on Thursday, October 1st! (Rain Date is October 8th.) Parents and care-givers should transport their child to arrive at the farm by 9:40 for a 9:45 check-in time with their teachers in front of the barn. Teachers will take attendance and hand out wristbands for 1 parent/caregiver and 1 child, to enter the farm and enjoy a hayride and pick a pumpkin. Any additional children or adults are responsible for paying the admission fee upon arrival or in advance through the Gaver Farm website.

Wear your GUMC T-shirt and other weather-appropriate clothing/footwear. Bring a plastic bag for your pumpkin, and bring a bag lunch or purchase concessions there if you'd like to extend your day. Enjoy shopping the farmer's market and craft shop! Room coordinators will be in touch with any special locations for class meet-ups and their times.

Everyone with a wrist band can select a pumpkin, which will then be placed in a wagon to be picked up outside the barn upon exiting the farm. Note your wagon number for easy retrieval.

10 Ideas to Get You and Your Child Exploring Outdoors

As the crisp autumn air rolls in and the leaves transform into a vibrant canopy of golds and reds, nature provides the ultimate, cost-free classroom for young minds. While it can be tempting to retreat indoors as the temperatures drop, fall is actually the perfect season to spark a lifelong love for outdoor play and exploration in preschoolers. From the satisfying crunch of fallen leaves to the sensory wonders of pine cones and damp earth, autumn offers a rich, tactile playground that boosts physical development, sharpens problem-solving skills, and nurtures early scientific curiosity. Stepping outside this season isn't just a break from the living roomโ€”it is an essential invitation for your child to discover, move, and thrive in the great outdoors.

10 Ideas to Get You and Your Child Exploring Outdoors is a naeyc publication by Donna Satterlee, Grace Cormons, and Matt Cormons that lists fun activities to enjoy being outside together, not just in the fall, but during any time of year.
