Greetings to all SBA Families and Happy New Year! As we have returned to school this week, we are also wrapping up our 2nd Quarter of learning. Students continue to work towards their personal learning goals and our school improvement goals. Our teachers continue to work to engage students and support their growth (as learners and young people) each day. It's been a great week back together!

We appreciate your partnership at home, and we are thankful you share your child(ren) with us each day. At the end of the month you will receive an update on our progress towards our School Improvement goals in math, writing, and attendance. Along with our 2nd quarter data, you will receive links to resources to support your child's growth at home. Thank you for partnering with us!

The end of 2nd Quarter also means we will take time to recognize our 2nd Quarter SOAR-ING EAGLES. The SOAR-ING EAGLE Award recognizes students who come to school each day and demonstrate our core values of Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect. 45 students have been nominated by classroom and Specials teachers. If your child was nominated, you would have received an email and a paper invite to our recognition event. Great Job to the 2nd Quarter SOAR-ING EAGLES!!!

Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, Jan. 12th due to the teacher work day or on Monday, Jan. 19th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day. Also our Winter Parent Teacher Conferences will be held at the end of February. We will start the scheduling process for conferences at the beginning of February. There will be opportunities for parents to volunteer and support our PTO during conferences. You can find more information in the PTO Notes below.

SBA FAMILY NIGHT @ THE KIRBY SCIENCE CENTER (WASHINGTON PAVILION)

On Thursday, Feb. 12th our PTO will be hosting a Family Night at the Kirby Science Center in the Washington Pavilion (301 S Main Avenue). All SBA Families will receive FREE ADMITTANCE from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Your family can interact with all of the fun exhibits and attend a show in the Cinedome! We look forward to this fun night together!

Winter Clothing Reminder

Just a reminder to have your child(ren) wear their coats, hats, and mittens. To play in the snow, your child will also need their snowpants and snow boots. Recess will be outside as long as the air temperature and windchill are 0 and above.

There is still time to nominate your child's classroom, Specials, English Language, or Special Education teacher for the Teacher of the Year Award. Nominations close on Jan. 12th.

Does or has your child had a teacher that made a big impact on their life? A teacher that has stood out to you? If so, please consider nominating that teacher for the 38th Annual Dr. John Harris Teacher of the Year Award. We have many deserving teachers at SBA who go above and beyond to show up and make a difference for our EAGLES! Conference Meal for Teachers ~ Feb. 26th: The SBA PTO will be providing our teachers a meal prior to conferences on Thursday, Feb. 26th. We will have the main course of the meal catered, but we are looking for donations of desserts and beverages. A sign up sheet will be sent in a few weeks.
Book Fair ~ Feb. 26th & March 2nd: Volunteers are needed to help with the Book Fair during our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences. If you sign up to help, you will be able to receive one free book from the Book Fair. A sign up sheet will be sent in a few weeks.
FAB FRIDAY Planning has started! To be a success we will need many volunteers. Please mark your calendars for Friday, May 15th! More information to come!
