Washington Elementary
February 2026
Message from Principal Gale
February is a busy and exciting month at Washington Elementary! 🎉
Our school is also enjoying our One Book, One School read-aloud, Charlotte’s Web. Students and staff are having a lot of fun listening to the story together, learning new vocabulary, and participating in engaging activities. Many of these activities focus on the important themes of friendship, kindness, and loyalty, helping to build connections across our school community.
We are excited to welcome families to our Math & Reading Night on Thursday, February 26th, from 5:30–6:30 PM. The PTO will be hosting a pancake feed, and our teachers will lead fun and engaging math and reading activities throughout the building. This is always a wonderful opportunity for families to learn together—we hope to see you there!
As winter weather continues, please be mindful of sending students to school dressed appropriately for outdoor conditions. Students should have coats, hats, gloves, and boots each day. We do go outside for recess when the feels-like temperature is 15 degrees or higher. When there is snow on the ground, only students wearing boots may play on the grass areas.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Mrs. Simmons, School Counselor
February School Counselor Spotlight
Dear Wildcat Students and Families,
As we step into February, a month filled with themes of love, kindness, and reflection, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the role of School Counselors in our children’s lives. Did you know that the first week of February is designated as National School Counseling Week? This special observance highlights the impact Counselors have on helping students achieve academic success, social-emotional growth, and career readiness.
At the heart of what school counselors do, the very “why” that drives our passion, is guiding children to build essential life skills that empower them for the future. This includes helping children develop problem-solving skills, study habits, social skills, how to handle strong emotions, how to work through life issues, and how to keep themselves safe in today’s world. Counselors strive to create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive, feel heard, and gain the confidence to navigate challenges both big and small.
What is social-emotional all about?! There's actually quite a bit of conversation these days about what that means. Here's what it looks like at Washington… We help students learn how to communicate with both classmates and adults when they aren't sure what to say or how to say it. Maybe they need help figuring out how to problem solve an issue with a friend or maybe they need to learn how to ask a teacher for help. These are life lessons that will prepare them to succeed both in school, life, and in their careers. We also practice positive self-talk, breathing techniques, and other skills when they're frustrated but need to keep learning. Big emotions happen and we're here to help students learn how to ensure they can communicate, manage, and handle what they face in life in ways that keep them going and growing!

Wishing you a heartfelt February,
~Mrs. Simmons
