Oakhurst Weekly
Welcome to the 2026β2027 school year! We hope your summer was full of rest, relaxation, and memorable moments. The halls of Oakhurst are ready to come alive again, and our faculty and staff couldn't be more excited to welcome your students back for another incredible year of learning, growing, and community.
π© Quick Check: Don't Miss CSD Emails!
Before we jump into the fun stuff, we have a quick administrative request. City Schools of Decatur (CSD) and Oakhurst send critical updates and district newsletters via email.
Important Action Item: Please check your Junk, Spam, or Promotions folders to ensure CSD emails aren't hiding there! To make sure you never miss an announcement:
- Add CSD email addresses to your trusted contacts.
- Mark any misplaced messages as "Not Junk."
Mark your calendars! We are kicking off the year with our annual Meet & Greet on July 30th 9:00am-11:00am, and itβs going to be a fantastic event for our Oakhurst Families. It's the perfect opportunity to ease into the new school year and get excited for day one.
Here is a quick look at what you can do while you're here:
- Meet Your Teacher & Explore the Classroom: Step inside, find your seat, and briefly get to know your childβs educator.
- Catch Up with Classmates: Reconnect with old friends and make new ones before the first day bell rings.
- Connect with the Oakhurst PTA: Find out about upcoming events, purchase spirit wear, and learn how you can support our school community.
- Chat with CSD Transportation Reps: Have questions about bus stops, routes, or schedules? Transportation representatives will be on-site to assist.
- Explore Community Organizations: Meet local community partners offering awesome after-school programs, activities, and resources for Decatur families.
- POPSICLES...and so much more!
To keep all students safe, City Schools of Decatur requires a current background check on file for all volunteers and chaperones. This is especially important for anyone chaperoning a field trip (exploring with a small group of students) or supervising students without a staff member present. Background checks must be renewed every 12 months.
Here is how to complete your background check:
- Step 1: Pay the Fee via Infinite Campus: Log into the CSD Public Store. Click on City Schools of Decatur School Store > CSD Misc. Fees > Background Check Fee ($38). Enter your name and phone number in the comments section before checking out. Be sure to save/print your receipt, as you will need it for your appointment!
- Step 2: Schedule an Appointment: Book a 10-minute slot using the online appointment calendar. Appointments are held at the Wilson Center (125 Electric Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Note that appointment slots open up 21 days in advance.
- Step 3: What to Bring: Please bring your driver's license and your payment receipt to your appointment. You will fill out a short form, and results (submitted via the GBI) are typically returned within 24 hours.
We are so grateful for this vibrant community and can't wait to partner with you for a fabulous school year ahead. See you all very soon!
Warmly,
Principal Triplett
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL: FIRST DAY AND BEYOND
Please thoroughly review our arrival and dismissal procedures and information before the first day of school--even if you're a returning family! Adherence to these guidelines helps us keep everyone safe and things running smoothly. Below is a quick-reference guide to our car rider line, which will likely be most of our families at least once (rain, snow, appointments, etc.).
Families are welcome to walk their students to the classroom door (please don't enter the room) on the first day of school. Kindergarten families may walk their students to the classroom door on the first and second days. We'll take it from there, and we promise they're in excellent hands. π
*Walker pro tip: If you suspect your child may have a difficult transition at arrival, entering through the front doors is often easier than through the back door.
