BMC Bulletin
Nov 17th, 2025
At Berkeley Middle College High School, we are committed to supporting all students in meeting the high expectations that prepare them for success in both high school and college. Our core values—Respect, Integrity, and Determination—guide everything we do, and we work to ensure that students understand what these look like in daily practice.
As a reminder, the BMC Demerit system is designed to provide clear communication and consistent support when students need reminders or redirection. It is also meant to help students develop the responsibility and self-management skills that are essential in a college-level environment.
We understand that some have had questions about the wording of certain expectations—such as the phrase “promptly respond”—and we appreciate you bringing those concerns to our attention. Our goal is never to confuse, but rather to communicate expectations in a way that helps students stay informed, engaged, and on track in their coursework.
Please Note:
- Terms like “promptly” are intended to encourage students to check their email daily and stay informed about important communications that may impact their classes or TTC responsibilities. We understand that students may have extenuating circumstances that delay their response, and we are always willing to discuss situations as needed.
- Demerits are not punitive. They are a tool to help students recognize areas where support may be needed so that staff can intervene early and help them stay on track.
- Communication with students: At times, we need to speak with your student regarding time-sensitive information, including grades, attendance, or expectations. Because of the BMC schedule, structure, and college-level environment, we may not see students daily. Therefore, we contact them through Rooms messages or by calling the phone number they provided at orientation.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to help every Titan succeed. We value your feedback, your involvement, and your commitment to your student’s success at BMC. If you have any questions or would like further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Together, we uphold the Trademarks of a Titan and ensure our students thrive.
Warm Regards,
Alison Thornley

Supporting Student Success
At BMC, we help students embody the core trademarks of a Titan: Respect, Integrity, and Determination. To support this, we are implementing a demerit system to guide students in making positive choices. It addresses areas such as communication, attendance, using their time wisely while on campus, participation in tutoring, and seeking help when needed. Ideally, this system will help students understand the impact of their actions, and supports the development of strong habits, so all Titans can thrive both in and out of the classroom.
