OSCEOLA MIDDLE SCHOOL 25-26

NOVEMBER 2025 NEWSLETTER
All kids matter, are important, and can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
As we begin the holiday season, I would like to share my gratitude for the dedicated staff that show up daily to support our OMS learners. Our staff is an amazing group of educators, devoted to connecting with students and finding new ways to present engaging academic learning experiences. Thank you for sharing your children with us and for your support through the middle school journey.
OMS PRIDE
As of October 28th, our staff have given out 518 electronic PRIDE awards to students. As a parent, you will receive an email notification when your child has received a PRIDE award, including why the award was given. Each Monday we randomly select two students from each grade level who earned a PRIDE award from the week prior to receive a special prize in the office.
STUDENTS OF THE QUARTER
5th Grade - Mason
6th Grade - Erin
Erin was nominated for Student of the Quarter because of her willingness to dig in and fight through any struggles that arise, all the while showing great respect and patience, even for those you may disagree with at times. The work you produce is authentically you, very thorough, with just a sprinkle of your wonderful sense of humor. The thinking you express both verbally and in your writing, make it clear that you are here at OMS to be the best version of yourself. We feel you really do show all the characteristics of Chieftain PRIDE!
7th Grade - Lucas
Lucas was nominated for Student of the Quarter because he demonstrates respect, kindness, and responsibility daily. This is evident by his actions towards others and his dedication to learning. Lucas actively contributes to class discussions and consistently approaches classes and schoolwork with a positive attitude and a desire to learn. Lucas is one of the first students to volunteer to help bring in equipment from recess, help clean-up a classroom, or help a student who is struggling. He truly sets a positive example of what Chieftain PRIDE is in and out of the classroom.
8th Grade - Ruby
Ruby was nominated for Student of the Quarter because she is an outstanding example of kindness, integrity and leadership. She approaches every day with a positive attitude and greets others with warmth and sincerity. Ruby is a hard working student who goes above and beyond in everything she does. Her caring and compassionate nature sets a powerful example in our school community.
Recess
Please remember that students will still go outside for recess for 20 minutes following lunch. Students will need to have winter jackets, hats, and mittens to stay warm! We want kids to be safe and protected from our glorious, ever-changing Wisconsin weather!
SCHOOL CLOSURE INFORMATIOIN
As Wisconsin weather begins its familiar shift, we want to be sure everyone knows where to find accurate and timely school closure information. Here is the link to our School Closure Information, which outlines how decisions are made and how families are notified. You can also find this anytime on our district webpage under Family Resources.
OMS FOOD DRIVE
GRADING & REPORT CARDS
1st quarter report cards will be available in Skyward the first week of November. I will send out a notification through Skyward once they are ready to view. To view grades, you will log in to Family Access, click on Report Cards on the left side, and lastly click on the Standards Report Card to open a PDF File.
OMS students do not receive traditional letter grades (A-F) in their classes or on their report cards. They are scored on a 1-3.5 scale for each content standard. The online report card will provide a clear picture of what your child is learning and where your child is in the learning process based on Wisconsin Standards. This process is used in grades 4K-8.
You will have online access to a report card at the end of each Quarter. Detailed grades with specific assignments and assessments listed will be located in Schoology.
5th GRADE COOKIE DOUGH PICK-UP
Cookie dough will be delivered to OMS for pick-up on Wednesday, November 12th. If students have more than 8 boxes, they need to be picked up between 2:30 - 4:00 PM. Please come to the main office, check in, go to the library to get the boxes along with your child, and start delivering! Thank you for supporting OMS!
*Students with less than 8 boxes will be able to bring the cookie dough home on the bus.
ANNUAL NOTICES
Each year, school districts are required to share a set of Annual Notices with families. These notices outline important information about student rights, privacy, special education services, school nutrition, and other policies that help keep our schools safe, welcoming, and supportive for every student. While much of the language is formal, the purpose is simple: clarity, transparency, and partnership with you.
COMMUNICATION
Family Access/Student Access: Family Access and Student Access are web-based information and communication tools designed to provide parents/students with instant access to their school information from any place at any time. Middle school parents will be able to view the following for their children: attendance, class schedules, food service account details and balances, students’ address information, emergency contact information, immunization records, grades, and report cards.
In an effort to keep you more informed, we use email as a communication tool often. Please be sure your email is up-to-date. You can change/update or add email accounts on your own or call the office. Message Center allows teachers and administrators to post information to inform parents about their child, school, and upcoming classroom events. We use Schoology as the main form of academic communication between parents and teachers and students and teachers.
BUILDING ENTRANCE & EXIT
All vehicles either dropping off or picking up students should go to the FRONT doors only!
*After School: Please form two lines in front of the school and continue moving forward (similar to an airport drop off). If those lines fill, please loop around to the right, toward the high school lot and wait until it is clear to cross. Once buses are ready to depart, they have the right of way. See picture below.
Pool Doors = Buses ONLY: Please help keep our students safe and buses on time by staying away from the pool doors with any vehicle.
Secured Entrances: Our main entrance will be the only entry point after the doors lock in the morning. We have a camera and buzzer system that allows us to see who is requesting access to the building. After you use the buzzer, you will need to state your name and reason for entering the building. Once allowed in, you will be in a secured office where you will be asked to sign in. You may be asked to provide a form of photo identification.
Pick Up Routine:
Cars = (white lines) Form two lines driving forward to keep the lines moving. Please stay where the white lines are.
Buses: = (yellow lines) Please do not park or obstruct the line of buses

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
BENEFITS of school attendance
We need your children here at school! Consistent school attendance provides many benefits for your child’s life, including:
Structure & Routine: When your child regularly engages in the same activities, they will be more likely to develop structure. This structure instills a sense of time management that will be useful in many avenues of their life.
Academics: Students who regularly attend class are more likely to achieve higher reading and math levels than students who don’t. Learners are more likely to keep up with daily assignments, develop stronger language and vocabulary skills, and be better prepared academically.
Social Skills: Children participate in many social situations that are vital for understanding the world around them. Socializing with peers helps them understand social cues, social etiquette, and how to express their thoughts in a constructive way.
The Osceola School District assists you with tracking your child’s attendance by sending notification letters when your child hits the thresholds of being absent 5 and 10 days. If your child hits the 10 day mark, we ask for a doctor's note for further absences. Our counselors work together with families to support students being in school. Every day counts!
The Osceola School District uses an efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrivals. This system reduces the time it takes to verify student attendance, making it easy for you to report your child's absence. Below is a link with information on reporting an absence.
