Dear PS 199 Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the middle of June! As the school year begins to wind down, we’re filled with pride reflecting on how much our students have grown—academically, socially, and emotionally.

These final days are filled with joyful learning experiences, end-of-year celebrations, and meaningful moments that help close out the year on a positive note. We thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the year—it has made a tremendous difference.

As always, we will continue to prioritize safety, structure, and strong routines while also making space for reflection, celebration, and fun. Let’s finish the year strong—together.

Dear Parents and Families,

As the school year comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for an incredible year! We are truly thankful for the opportunity to work together with our students, staff, and families to create a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters growth, learning, and friendship.

We are grateful for the trust you have placed in us to educate and care for your children. We appreciate the countless ways you have supported us throughout the year, whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply being a sounding board for your child's experiences.

As we head into the summer break, we wish you all a wonderful and relaxing time with your loved ones. May this summer bring you joy, adventure, and rejuvenation!

Good day, P.S. 199 Parents

With just a couple of weeks left of the 2024-25 school year, let’s take a moment to take a deep cleansing breath and reflect on the year. We made it! We had a lot of new and amazing activities and programming for the students this year, thanks to our administration and staff. So much, that I think we need to take another breath. Before I move into 2025 Summer Rising mode, I want to thank our PTA board for making this school year wonderful, for our families. I'm looking forward to working with you ladies next year. Thank you to all the parents who participated and volunteered to make sure our events and activities were a success. Carmen, Georgina, Khulood and Saira, thank you for all you have done this year, and what you continue to do daily for our school community.

Summer Rising Summer Program: You are still able to sign into your MySchool account to add your child to one of our summer program waitlist. If you have not created a MySchool account and are unsure about how to add your child to a waitlist, please contact me for assistance.

REMINDER: PS 199's Summer Rising site is at PS 343, located at 45-45 42nd Street Sunnyside NY 11104. PS 199 will be closed for the summer.

The NYC We Speak English Classes for Adults have resumed on May 6, 2025. We will continue to meet on Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. The last day of class will be on June 24, 2025. Participants that attend 4 sessions will be eligible for a program completion certificate. You still have time to join. Classes are held in the school's library.

We are looking to prepare for our fall dental appointment with Smile America Dental Partners which will take place September 15th to September 19th. Some of you have allowed you children to participate in this service in the pass and are familiar with how it works. For those of you who are not, take a moment to review this information.

Smile Mobile Dental Unit comes twice a year to provide dental services to our students during the school day. They request your insurance information to cover administrative cost, but you are never billed for the services. For families without health coverage, your child will still be provides the service with your signed consent.

Please use the following link to complete your application online for our September appointment. For those of you who have used the service before, but have now decided to use a different dental service, please fill in your child's name on the application and write in large letters "OPT OUT" when you receive a paper copy in September.

Parents of our kindergarten and grade 1 students, if you child is still not able to self identify, please send in a photo of your child with their name and date of birth written on the back. If you have any question regarding this program, please contact me at sbecco@schools,nyc.gov.

To our Sunnyside Afterschool families, it has been such a wonderful year, and we would like to thank all of you for your continuous support! To the families who were accepted into the Summer Rising program, we will see you all on Wednesday, July 2nd! Please make sure to submit any remaining documents to us by Friday, June 20th. To all our other families, we wish you a fun, restful, and safe summer! At this time, we do not have any information regarding Afterschool for SY 2025-2026. No action needs to be taken at this time.
