A Note from Mrs. Kopperud and Ms. Abreo
Dear Adventure Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at last week's Fiesta Cultural! A huge thank you to our event planning committee: Celina (Nyjah and Lincoln's mom), Tina (Jeremiah's mom), William and Brisa (Anahi's parents), and Mayra (Alejandro and Sebastian's mom). Their leadership resulted in a very fun evening! And special thank you to Ms. Xóchitl for her efforts, especially in arranging for our musical guests.
Mrs. G and Ms. Nonies are each planning for end-of-year celebrations. The 3rd and 4th graders will perform in a concert at Adventure on Monday, May 19 at 1:45; the 5th and 6th graders created animated videos that will also be shown during this performance. Then, the K-6 field day will be held on Tuesday, May 27. The 3rd-6th graders will participate in activities in the morning and then the Kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders will participate in the afternoon. If you'd like to volunteer to help, please sign up here!
Saludos,

Dual Language Corner
Adventure teachers are always hard at work to make our Dual Language program the best it can be. Monthly, Dual Language Teachers get together to plan and refine instruction, as well as to reflect on current programming to identify what is going well and what needs to be adjusted. They also spend time over the summer to enhance instruction and programming!
This summer, our 2nd and 3rd grade teachers will participate in a planning day in which they will plan their literacy units to make them the most effective they can be by deciding which standards will be taught in English and which standards will be taught in Spanish. By doing this, we can ensure that standards aren’t repeated unless necessary and that students’ time is being used effectively. We will also plan for cross-linguistic transfer, which is when a concept is taught in one language in order to support student learning in the other language. Adventure Dual Language teachers are always striving to support our Dual Language program and students!
Attendance Updates
We had 59 students that earned this year's Attendance Field Trip at Skate City! Students that earned the field trip had 0-5 excused absences and 0-5 tardies or early dismissal.
We look forward to seeing how many students earn it next year!

Staff Spotlight
Ms. Marisa Abreo, Assistant Director
Growing up as a Latina, Marisa's family didn't know Spanish which motivated her to learn it and connect with her roots and identity. Marisa earned her undergraduate degree and teaching license from UNC before working on a Master's at CU-Boulder in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity. Most recently, she completed her administrator's license with a capstone project focused on leading schools through change and improvement.
Marisa's passion and dedication to our school community began 20 years ago when she started her teaching career as a 2nd grade Spanish Literacy teacher. Ms. Abreo also taught 3rd and 4th grades in Mapleton before moving to teach abroad in Venezuela. As an instructional coach at the international school, she supported teachers and students. When she moved back to Colorado, she returned to Mapleton as a member of the Global staff. She taught at GPA and then moved into a leadership role at GIA before returning to her roots at Adventure, now as the Assistant Principal.
Both of Marisa's children are Mapleton students, too; her son is a kindergartener at Adventure and her daughter attends the toddler program at GPA. Congratulations on your recent award and recognition, Ms. Abreo; our community is very grateful for your leadership and care!
