Wake Up Inspired and Go Home Fullfilled
Green Team Leadership in Action
Our fourth and fifth grade Green Team members recently stepped into powerful leadership roles within our school community. They prepared and delivered presentations to students in grades K through 3, sharing the importance of recycling and how small actions can make a big difference.
Our Green Team leaders taught younger students:
-
Why recycling matters for our school, our community, and our world
-
What materials can and cannot be recycled
-
How to properly sort items to reduce waste
-
How individual responsibility contributes to collective impact
What made this experience especially meaningful was not just the content, but the leadership. Our older students modeled confidence, responsibility, and care for the environment. They demonstrated that leadership is not about age. It is about action and influence.
A special thank you to Mrs. Pilla-Grippi, world language teacher, for launching the Green Team at Knight and for thoughtfully facilitating the application process and ongoing meetings with our Green Team leaders. Her leadership has created meaningful opportunities for students to develop voice, ownership, and pride in making our school a better place.
This is student voice.
This is student ownership.
This is culture building in action.
We are incredibly proud of our Green Team and grateful for the adults who create spaces for our students to lead.
Author Visit and Read-A-Thon
We are excited to share that our Author Visit will take place on March 10th. While students are looking forward to the event, this message is really about gratitude.
Thank you to Mr. Feeley, our librarian, who wrote the grant and dedicated significant time both before and after it was awarded to bring this opportunity to our students. We are also grateful to Mrs. Williams, our PTA president, and Mrs. Park, librarian at Harte Elementary School and former ARK parent, who reviewed and helped refine the grant.
A special thank you as well to Mrs. Hennefer, Mrs. Gallagher, Mrs. Quigley, and Mrs. Augugliaro for planning and facilitating this year’s Read-a-Thon, making it a wonderful success for our school community.
We are proud to share that our Read-a-Thon and Author Visit will be recognized in the NJEA Review at the state level and in NEA Today at the national level. Thank you to Ms. Graham for drafting our press release, which will highlight our Read-a-Thon, student reading logs and awards, our Author Visit, and the NEA Read Across America grant that helped fund this experience.
We are grateful for the many individuals who continue to elevate and celebrate the incredible work happening in our school community.
