Principal Grimes Friday Message
Friday 10/23 Message for Families
Letter from the Principal
Friday 10/23 Family Message
Happy Friday!
This week time flew by with all my scheduled meetings and catching up after a fun HOCO week filled with many activities. We had our second-grade check today. Students participating in Fall Sports should have gotten their grades in their mentorship class this week. Please have your student connect directly with their teacher of record if they have questions or concerns about their grades. Stop by the athletic office and see Mr. Darby Haskins, NH Athletic Director, if you need support or guidance and help with your grade check.
It was nice to get into many classrooms this week. I enjoyed seeing students in their math classes and social study classes. I saw students engaged through discussion and problem solving. Students used their math terminology to share what they know using key vocabulary terms. Teachers used a variety of strategies to have students show their thinking. They used whiteboards, group quizzes, individual warm up activities, gestures, and verbal responses to show their understanding. When I walk into one class and then to another class with the same lesson and see the same learning objective it confirms the importance of teacher collaboration and calibration to ensure student engagement and mastery are prioritized across content areas. I appreciated seeing the same lesson being taught across each content area.
9th grade elections kicked off on Wednesday during Mentorship. Students heard about leadership opportunities at Nathan Hale. Ask your FROSH if they are thinking about running. There is a strict timeline on the process from beginning to end in the daily bulletin.
Tonight is Hale Hallows from 6 to 9 p.m. at the East entrance. I am happy students have brought back this amazing fall event designed to build community at Nathan Hale. It is a great opportunity for families to see just how awesome our student leaders are as they plan, implement, and design activities and events. Hats off to ASNH! Do not miss out! Tickets are $5 for the Haunted House and $5 for 5 carnival games or food.
We also have Senior Night for Girls Swim at 4:00 p.m. at Meadowbrook Pool. Soccer will be played on Saturday at Foster High School at 6:00 p.m. Please see the note below regarding the Nathan Hale Golf team achievement!
This is a reminder to register for the Advanced Placement Exams and submit payment for the test(s) by next Friday, 10/30 at 5 p.m. See more information under Important Announcements below.
May everyone have a great weekend. Be safe. I look forward to seeing students on Monday morning by the first bell at 8:45 a.m.
In Partnership,
Ms. Jolene Grimes

Help our School by Completing the CNEEB Form
Even with Free Breakfast and Lunch for Every SPS Student, all SPS families are encouraged to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) form.
Why?
- It may qualify students for meal benefits and reduced fees.
- It helps schools receive funding based on student need.
- Complete information helps SPS plan and allocate resources effectively.
Don't think you'll qualify? No problem. The form now includes an option to "Decline Benefits.” Submitting that response still helps us maintain complete and accurate information.
The best data is data that is complete.
