The UMS School Store is Open! UMS will continue the UMS Mobile School Store this year to provide more opportunities for students to use their "Talons!" Items will include school supplies, small fidgets, snack items, and other small rewards. If you would like to donate similar items or school spirit items, please drop them off at the front office. If you would like to order from our Wishlist, you can check it out on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/67VI1ENMBFAN?ref_=wl_share.
Thank you for supporting the UMS MTSS program this year!
After School Clubs
After School Clubs are beginning to be formed. Information can be found on the school website under the parents and students tab. Please remember that most afterschool clubs are sponsored and facilitated by staff who volunteer their time after school.
Career Guest Speaker in 8th-Grade Applied Business and Marketing Classes
PPR Strategies recently visited Urbana Middle School as career guest speakers for Mrs. Estok’s 8th grade Applied Business & Marketing classes!
As part of the Frederick County Public Schools Career Coaching program, Mrs. Batt, our UMS Career Coach, invited Caleigh and Shelby from PPR Strategies to share their academic and career experiences, give students an inside look at what PPR Strategies does, and lead students through a marketing challenge of their own: How would they market Urbana Middle School to other middle school students?
We appreciate Caleigh and Shelby taking the time to share their experiences and give our students the opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world marketing and put their skills into action!
Standby Guardianship Option
Standby Guardianship offers a parent or guardian the ability to nominate another person, called a standby guardian, to take care of their children in the event of mental incapacitation, physical debilitation, or an adverse immigration action. Completing the Parental Designation and Consent to the Beginning of Standby Guardianship is a first step for parents in taking actions to protect their children. Information on Immigration can be found on the MSDE website at https://marylandpublicschools.org/about/pages/dsfss/immigration.aspx. However, Standby Guardianship is an important, protective option for all parents to consider. For more information about Standby Guardianship, please see the link here.
National Walk & Roll to School Day - Wednesday, October 7, 2026
School is back in session and it’s a great time to reinforce pedestrian and bicycle safety with your students. You can find a guide with age-appropriate recommendations for “Teaching Children to Walk Safely” at pedbikeinfo.org.
Wednesday, October 7th marks this year’s National Walk & Roll to School Day, where students are encouraged to use an alternative mode of transportation. This day promotes safe travel to school, physical activity, reduced traffic, and environmental sustainability. If your school is interested in participating this year, please review the resources listed below to help you organize and advertise a successful Walk & Roll to School Day. Email CJ Wahl at connor.wahl@fcps.org if you have any questions or need additional information.

School Meals/LINQ Connect/Free & Reduced Meals
FCPS participates in the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program which offers free or reduced meals for students. We encourage families who think they qualify (or are unsure if they qualify) to complete the free and reduced-price meal benefits application online at LINQConnect. The grace period for families participating in this program is ending on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
In order to continue participating in the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program, families must reapply for benefits every year. Eligibility is based on annual income eligibility guidelines effective July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
For more information on school meals, including daily costs, special dietary needs, and the Free and Reduced Meals program, please see the Back to School flyers below:
LINQConnect is the online parent portal for parents to add money to student meal accounts AND to apply for Free and Reduced Price Meal Benefits (FARM). There is no fee to use this platform.
