NHS and Rho Kappa Serving Our Servicemen and Servicewomen NHS and Rho Kappa Serving Our Servicemen and Servicewomen

On Thursday, November 23rd, Leyden High Schools hosted over 250 recruits from the Great Lakes Naval Base to provide them with a warm Thanksgiving meal with all of the fixings. Thank you to the members of our school board, administrative team, food services, transportation, maintenance, catering classes, and the chamber choir for giving their time and talents to make this a special day for everyone. National Honor Society and Rho Kappa students from East and West Leyden also volunteered to schmooze and play games with our guests. Serving those who have chosen to serve our country was the least we could do to show our appreciation and gratitude.

Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Giving Tuesday was born at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. Giving Tuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

StuCo and Rho Kappa Coat, Toy, and Food Drive StuCo and Rho Kappa Coat, Toy, and Food Drive

zoom_out_map
Student Council and Rho Kappa will be co-sponsoring our annual coat and food/toy drives. The drives will begin on November 27th and end on December 8th. The new and gently used coats will be donated to One Warm Coat, aiding recently arrived migrants who are not used to dressing for Chicago winters. The new and unwrapped toys along with non-perishable food items will be donated to Leyden Family Services to help the less fortunate in our Leyden community. Donation boxes can be found in the Main Office and the Student Activities Office. Check the slides and publicity around the building to see the most essentially needed items. All students, along with faculty and staff, have TWO unique opportunities to participate: donate physical items or donate spare change!

Students who donate coats, food and/or toys to the Food and Toy Drive have the opportunity to enter a raffle! Please encourage your students to bring non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys for kids ages 11 - 14 to the Student Activities office during all lunch periods from November 27th - December 8th.

We will also be hosting a Penny War to fundraise money from December 4th - December 8th during all lunch periods in the Student Activities Office. The class who raises the most money will win 500 points for Junior Olympics 2024! All proceeds will benefit Leyden Township and Leyden Family Services.

Here's the slideshow which provides more details.

Thank you for your support!

On Thursday, December 14th, Student Council will be hosting our winter blood drive in the Eagle's Wing. The health benefits and community needs make this a tough service project to beat. Students can start registering for an appointment online now! Students can also get help registering online during lunch periods the week of December 11th. Upperclassmen should consider donating. Students must be 16 or older and weigh at least 110 lbs. Anyone 18 or older may donate as a "walk-in". Staff members do NOT need an appointment and will be moved immediately to the front of the line. Thank you in advance for your donation - it may just save a life!
