What's Happening at Woodside?
This week was spent getting back into the school routine and preparing for CAASPP testing next week. Of course, we had some fun, too! We congratulate our new Dance & Cheer Team members for the 2025-26 School Year: Brooklyn Snider, Isabella Whitten, and Olivia Shirley, as they completed Try-outs on Monday. The highlight of our week was Friday's Jog-a-Thon. Thanks and appreciation to our amazing volunteers: Nicole Goss, Scott Doering, Ciara Compton, Tenesha Caudill, Maya Hetrick, Angie Kinder, Malisa Price, Ashlee Kruse, Ashley Ayala, Anne & Corina Dene, Joyce Lett, Stephanie and Susan Carr, Lacey Kehrer, Salina Daniels, Melissa Felix, Gisselle Rivera, Sabrina Shroeder, Elizabeth O'Keefe, Celia Tapia!! I apologize if we forgot your name here...but, we appreciate the support in making this event possible! This year we set up two courses and had our Big and Little Buddies run at the same time before heading to the quad for an Otter Pop and a little Friendship Friday! Check out the photos of our Cougars in action...mostly from the Jog-a-Thon, but also 2nd Grade Buyers and Sellers and Silkworms!

English Language Arts CAASPP Testing in 3rd -8th Grades
From 8:10-10:00am most mornings our 3rd-8th grade classes will be completing the ELA portion of the California state test this week. Starting Monday, the students will work on the Computer-Adapted Test with multiple choice questions on several reading, writing, speaking, and listening standards. The latter part of the week is devoted to a Performance Task which includes reading texts deeply and responding with written response (essays).
These tests provide an opportunity to measure the skills of all students against the same academic standards, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation. The results provide information that schools can use to improve teaching and learning and ensure students graduate college and career-ready. To learn more about the CAASPP system, check the Parent Guides to Understanding at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp
Testing Rules and Expectations
To ensure a fair and accurate assessment of student knowledge and skills, behavior guidelines are to be adhered to. These include:
- Limited disruptions during testing. This includes late arrivals, visitors, and student disruptions. Each classroom will have a reminder at the door. Students are asked to stay in seats, raise a hand for assistance, leave the room for bathroom break or break with permission, maintain respectful words and behaviors. We ask our elementary classes to help by staying quiet in the quad and testing wings.
- No cell phones and electronic devices. Students are required to have their cell phones turned off and stored away during the test. To enforce this expectation, teachers will be collecting cell phones, smart watches, and any other electronic devices in a pocket chart or box. They can be returned after testing, with our current cell phone policy. Middle School Cell Phone Policy Elementary Cell Phone Policy
How can I help my child?
- Remind your child that you and their teacher want them to try their best and that you are there to help them every step of the way.
- Help your student get a good night's rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and be on time to school each morning.
- Visit the Starting Smarter website at https://ca.startingsmarter.org to better understand Student Score Reports, review sample questions, and access resources to support your child’s learning.
- Take a practice test with your child on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress Online Practice and Training Tests web page at https://www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html.

Innovative School Design Updates
Update from Design Team
Today marks the official wrap-up of our 2024–2025 design budget! Thanks to the district’s generous support, Woodside received $25,000 to invest in professional learning workshops and prototype materials. These funds empowered staff across campus to design and implement 58 unique prototype experiences, each aimed at exploring new approaches to teaching, learning, and community building.
Click the link below to explore the essential questions that guided each prototype.
