Parenting Tips and Information
How to Help Your Child With Transitioning
With school starting and family schedules becoming more hectic your daily schedule requires your child to make many transitions throughout their day. These transitions can often result in children having challenging behaviors. Below is an article of helpful tips to try at home to help you and your child prepare for transitions throughout their day.
Little Learners Literacy Program
Hello WCFCC Families,
We are so excited to introduce our Little Learners Literacy Program. This program is designed to build a strong relationship with our public library, add exposure to the library expectations and stimulate a lifelong love for reading.
A child's first library card is special. It opens the door to a world of reading. Studies show that children who use a library and are read to at home will do better in school.
Our goal is to have each child/family obtain a library card and visit the library regularly to take books out. To participate in this program please see one of our WCFCC staff to receive a punch card for your child, articles about the importance of reading, reading strategies and the impact it has on your child during these early years.
Each time you visit the library to take out books your child will receive one punch to their card from the librarian. Upon completion of 10 punches to their card they will return their card to the WCFCC Staff and receive a free book. We hope you create many wonderful memories spending time reading with your children.
If you would like to participate in this program please see one of the CFCE Staff.
Story/Time Playgroup
Story Time Playgroup helps your child's development in many ways.
Storytime has many benefits for children other than promoting early literacy and language development. It can help develop their concentration, social skills, communication skills, and encourages their imagination and creativity.
Play based learning recognizes that children learn best through active engagement and exploration in meaningful and enjoyable content. As children play, they engage their imagination, take risks and learn problem solving to support their development.
A music- rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving bring serious benefits to children as they progress to more formal learning.
Just Play!
Just play is a 45 minute parent and child playgroup. This playgroup will allow parents the opportunity to help develop their child’s social skills by engaging with their child in our various play centers. This program will also help with school readiness skills, expectations and classroom rules such as sharing, taking turns, choosing a toy or center and cleaning it up before moving on ect. All while having fun!
Gross Motor Development
Both our Hop Skip & Jump program as well as our Just Play E.I. help your child to develop their large muscle groups and work on their balance and coordination.
Physical development
Gross motor skills help children develop their posture, balance, and coordination. They also help children learn to move smoothly and efficiently from one position to another.
Gross motor skills involve the large muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. Some examples of gross motor skills include:
Standing
Walking
Running
Sitting upright
Jumping
Twisting your torso
Bending over
Moving or twisting your neck
Raising your arms and hands
You can support your child's gross motor development with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. For example, you can provide obstacle courses for crawling infants and sports for older children.
Just Play E.I.

Are you looking for a fun indoor playgroup where you can spend time interacting with your child? If you are, we hope you will join us for our Just Play at E.I. SING*EXPLORE*CREATE
Why Music Therapy?
When we listen to, play, and create music or otherwise engage in the arts, our brains light up and respond in ways that allow us to better express ourselves, regulate our bodies, and strengthen many important non-musical skills.
Join us each week as we welcome SING*EXPLORE*CREATE board certified music therapists for two half hour sessions of music and fun. Each session will be geared to the specific age group and will explore movement and rhythm through song and dance!
Session 1: 3 and 4 year olds
