Principal's Note
Good evening Middle School Families,
We’re excited to kick off our first round of Lifetime Activities (LTA) in January! Each LTA session includes three afternoons of hands-on, experience-based activities. We will run two sessions this year:
Session 1: January
-
January 16, 23, 29
Session 2: May/June
-
May 15, May 29, June 4
How LTA Works
-
LTA starts during 5th period.
-
Off-campus activities leave at the start of 5th period.
-
On-campus activities begin at the end of 5th period.
-
-
Students still get lunch.
-
We end at the regular dismissal time.
Choosing Activities
Students will see a list of options and choose their top three in order of preference. While we can’t always guarantee a first choice, we work hard to make sure every student gets into one of their top picks.
Activities change each session and can depend on the season. For example, ice fishing only happens in January. Some activities are outside, so students should plan ahead and dress for the weather.
What LTA Is All About
The goal of LTA is to give students new experiences that help them:
-
Build stronger relationships with classmates and staff
-
Connect with the wider community
-
Discover new skills, hobbies, and interests
LTA is part of the school day, so all school rules still apply.
Permissions & Forms
You’ve already completed the general field trip permission slip—thank you! However, some activities require an additional waiver. For example, the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center has its own form. If your child signs up for an activity that needs an extra form, we will let you know ahead of time so you can sign it.
As we get closer to Session 1, we’ll send out more information so you can check in with your child about their choices and final placement.
Community Members—Want to Get Involved?
If you’re an adult in the community with a skill you’d like to share—you’re willing to complete fingerprinting and are available on the dates — we’d love to hear from you! Our January plans are set, but we still have some flexibility for the May session.
Feel free to reach out if you’re interested! I've included some photos of past Lifetime Activities below.
As we head into break, we are asking that Chromebooks stay at school so they are charged and ready to go when we return. We know that having one more device at home to monitor can be challenging, so if your child does bring their Chromebook home and you’d prefer not to keep it there, I’m happy to help.
I will be in the building on 12/22 and 12/23 from approximately noon–7/8 p.m. Please feel free to reach out to me at jpaquette@svuvt.org, and I’ll gladly meet you at the front door if you’d like to drop it off at school. Thank you for your support, and enjoy the break!
Finally, a huge thank you to all of our students in grades 7–12 for their incredible support of our school-wide Food Drive. Congratulations to the 8th grade class for donating the highest number of food items and earning the top spot! Today, the 8th grade enjoyed their well-deserved reward of ice cream sundaes during 8th period. We truly appreciate the generosity, kindness, and strong sense of community shown by our students. Go Slaters! 💙🍨
Wishing all of our students and their families a relaxing, joyful December break!
Warmly,
Jennefer Paquette
Middle School Principal

Night of the Elephant
This year, we are trying something new with Night of the Elephant. As evening participation has declined over the years, we are shifting this opportunity to the school day, allowing more students to showcase their individual talents in a supportive, familiar setting. We hope this change encourages greater participation and inclusion. It takes real courage to step in front of your peers and share your talents—and it’s often in those brave, slightly uncomfortable moments that the most meaningful growth happens. Questions can be directed to Samantha Adams at sadams@svuvt.org.
Project Build Continues
Each group works a project to completion. If possible, that group then delivers their project to the recipient(s). Then a new group gets started!
Enjoy your December Break ~ December 22nd - Jan 2nd
- We return to school on Monday, January 5th 2026!
Next Eligibility Check - End of Quarter 2 - January 23rd
There is an eligibility check coming up! Talk with your child and check PowerSchool! Don't let it wait for the last minute. They should all know how to log on to their PowerSchool account.
Quarter 3 ends January 23. We will be checking eligibility!
We provide numerous eligibility checks. These eligibility checks do not result in removal from an extra-curricular. However, if a student is failing (less than 2.5) two or more classes, at the time of the eligibility check, they will be expected to attend Academic Success for 8 days in order to continue participating in the extra-curricular (sports and clubs). Our goal is to support student participation while placing a priority on academics. There is more information in the Athletic and Co-Curricular Handbook (linked below).
The dates of the Eligibility Checks are: Sept. 26th, Oct. 31st*, Dec. 12, Jan 23rd*, March 6th, April, 3rd*, May 8th and June 15th*. The four dates with asterisk's are the end of Quarter 1, 2, 3, and 4. You will receive a MS Report Card in the mail shortly after the end of a Quarter. We will remind you, and students, of these as they come up. However, it it important to get this on your radar early.
We want to help students develop the consistent habits and routines that allow them to maintain a steady level of success. We hope to avoid the "let it slip and then scramble' when an eligibility check is coming up.
