Dear Spartan Community,

Here we are, at the close of the 2024/2025 school year, and my first year at Sunset. This has been such an incredible year, and the month of May has showcased everything that is special about Sunset.

The 7th grade field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the student trip to visit the University of Northern Colorado exemplify our commitment to relevant and engaging learning.

The Music field trip to Boondocks, 4th quarter assembly, and our fun choice activities the last day of school reflect how much we all have fun together in celebrating our accomplishments and hard work.

The 8th grade Continuation Ceremony, iReady growth recognitions, and three wonderful concerts demonstrate our focus on learning, growth, and a holistic education.

Our Night of Culture and Community (where our 8th graders presented their Community Projects & our community came together), the NHS grad walk, and the selection of our new WEB and NJHS leaders uphold who we are as a community that shows it cares for and supports one another.

We will miss our 8th graders as they begin their journey into high school, and are excited to meet our new Spartans in August.

Thank you for welcoming me into this wonderful community. I am tremendously looking forward to the 2025/2026 school year!

Sincerely,

Alicia Bono; Principal

STEM Accelerator

The STEM Accelerator afterschool program wrapped up for the year on April 17th. Some highlights from our 4th quarter were: building and launching rockets with the CSU Rocket Launch Team, trying out product development with a CEO from a Denver start-up company, a field trip to the manufacturing lab at the Career Elevation and Technology Center (CETC) where we made metal signs using a plasma cutter, and a field trip to CU-Boulder where we toured several science labs, made ice cream, and did some fun outdoor STEM activities. Thanks to all the students who participated in the program this year. It was a great opportunity to build math skills, engage in hands-on STEM challenges, and learn more about STEM careers. Be on the lookout next fall to sign up for this dynamic afterschool program!

Sewing Club

Sewing Club was so much fun this year! In 2nd semester, Eli, Eli, and Ariella came each Wednesday with humor and bravery, learned new skills, completed projects, and best of all- they spent relaxed time together being creative! Thank you for coming to Sewing Club!

NJHS Induction Ceremony

In April, 8th grade National Junior Honor Society members inducted next year's 7th grade members into the well-respected organization. Current 8th grade members were celebrated for their commitment to the five pillars of NJHS; outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service. Ceremony speakers and ushers included: Sydney Alleman, Molly Buckner, Paige Edwards, Roslyn Hall, Jade Heishman, Addison Hollar, Kenzie Holubec, Breckin Lee, Max Sinclair, Summit Tillinghast, Ethan Wagenschutz, and Monica Wall

As a group, 8th grade NJHS members completed 1122 hours of service to school and community during the 24-25 school year. 3 students performed over 100 hours of service - Summit Tillinghast had 116.25 hours of service, Tereza Koudelkova had 108 hours of service, and Monica Wall had 102 hours of service. We are so proud of the kind, committed, and service oriented leaders they have become and are excited for our 25-26 members to carry on these traditions.

Geography Contest

Our geography club did an excellent job in this year's Geography Bee! They collaborated and thought critically about questions from 6 different categories, competing against 14 teams from all over SVVSD. They tied with teams from Altona, Mead, and Westview for 4th place overall and we are very proud of them!

6th Grade Language and Literature Library Activity

For their final library activities of the year, 6th grade language and literature classes completed a poetry station rotation set up by the marvellous Ms. Balman. Some of the activities included song lyric analysis, poetry identification, book tasting, and blackout poetry. This was a great wrap up to our novel unit study on Inside Out and Back Again, a novel written in verse.

Mr. Enright's Class

Students in Mr. Enrightโ€™s class have been reflecting on who they are now and who they hope to become by writing letters to their future selves. These meaningful messages will be sealed and delivered to them in 12th grade, offering a unique glimpse into their younger thoughts, goals, and dreams. Itโ€™s a powerful exercise in self-reflection and growth that we hope theyโ€™ll treasure for years to come.

Spanish Class

Students Create Their Own Board Games in Spanish!
Our students have been putting their creativity and critical thinking skills to the test by designing and building their very own board games. This project gave them the opportunity to apply what they've learned in class while working collaboratively, solving problems, and having fun along the way. Weโ€™re so proud of the imagination and effort they put into every detail of their creations!

Sunset Orchestra

Sunset students went to Niwot High School for the Niwot Jazz Day! They rehearsed with Niwot HS students in sectionals before performing for judges. Sunset received superior ratings! Jazz Band also performed with several other schools yesterday (5/13) at Planet Bluegrass as a part of the St. Vrain Spring Swing concert!
