Dear Families and Members of Our FES Community,

Francestown Elementary is on the prowl for acts of empathy and kindness within our school community! Recognizing students for acts of kindness through paper hearts, Hearts of the Lion, is a creative way to recognize the kind and empathetic acts in our school. The idea of wrapping the hearts around the school symbolizes a collective effort to create a more compassionate environment. At the end of each day, we will announce how many hearts were handed out to celebrate our fabulous community.

The incorporation of school spirit days on Wednesdays related to kindness is a great way to engage the entire school community. It provides a consistent and fun platform for students to actively participate in activities that promote empathy.

Additionally, involving students in reading books, playing games, and completing projects around empathy and kindness adds an educational aspect to the initiative. This approach not only recognizes positive behavior but also reinforces the importance of empathy.

If you have any specific questions please let your child's teacher know!

Wednesday, February 8

This week students worked in teams to engineer solutions and create hypotheses. Students conducted experiments using candy hearts. Working in multi-age groups they had to come up with one hypothesis about what would happen to the hear. They also needed to work together to balance as many candy hearts as possible on a small balance.

In a world where you can be anything, choose to be kind!

Thursday, February 14: Next week students will celebrate the end of our

Heart of the Lion Update: In the past two weeks students have earned over 800 hearts.

Every Monday Until March

We hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. The PTO is hard at work planning fun events for our FES kids and families. First up is the return of Crazy 8s Math Club!

Grades 1 and 2 completed the Super Cube Shuffle. They used math and art to create cool designs. They then played a game called Design Copy Mania. Students became Super Cube pros!

In Grades 3 and 4, they went on a treasure hunt. Using coordinate pairs, they created a secret picture. They had to work hard to find the treasure before the pirates did.

Basketball and The Digestive System

In P.E. this week all grades started their basketball unit, which will continue until the end of February, and are working hard on their hand-eye coordination with dribbling, partner passing, and shooting. All grades did such an amazing job this week with following directions the first time said, being kind and respectful that they earned their 15 stars needed for free choice Friday! Fourth and third grade decided on splitting the gym for two games of scooter soccer and regular soccer, second grade chose playing various games on scooters, and first grade and kindergarten voted for life-size battleship!

In health third and fourth grade began their unit on nutrition and the journey through the digestive system. Second grade continued their unit of nutrition with a game of nutrition bingo; while first grade and kinder also started the nutrition unit with learning about the 5 food groups and what makes a food a fruit or vegetable.
