November's Team Members of the Month

Greetings from HMS!

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize our Team Members of the Month for the month of November.

Each month teachers are asked to identify students to be recognized as outstanding team members, for any reason they feel deserves to be celebrated. The students are then invited to join Mr. Smith for a pancake breakfast before school. For the month of November, these students were selected for reasons ranging from their strong work ethic to their excellent sense of humor.

Whatever the reason might be, they all have contributed positively to our school community and we can't thank them enough!

HMS Food Drive Results

The Student Council has tallied up all of the food drive donations collected before the Thanksgiving break, and we believe it's fair to say that it was a HUGE success!

As a school we have over 1,500 food donations for the Hingham Food Pantry.

Great job, HMS!!!

The top three classes were . . .

. . . in 3rd place with 114 donations: Mr. Tiew's homeroom!

. . . in 2nd place with 180 donations: Mr. Conley's homeroom!

. . . and leading the school, in 1st place with 211 donations: Mr. Sullivan's homeroom!

We are so proud of all of the work everyone put in to make this happen.

Thank you for thinking of others during the holiday season.

The Great Debate

Recently, all eighth grade students participated in the Federalist vs Anti Federalist debate. These debates, which took place immediately after the Constitution was ratified, eventually resulted in what we've come to know as the Bill of Rights.

Ask your student which side she or he is on and what role they played in the debate team!

Prior to our Thanksgiving break, our eighth graders made "oobleck", which is non-Newtonian fluid. This helped up explore the states of matter. Ask your eighth grader what a non-Newtonian fluid is!

HMS is Here to Help

We understand that making ends meet can be difficult for some families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. Resources may be available to help families in times of financial need or other challenging situations. Our particular area of outreach is for food support for the upcoming holidays.

Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel at your child's school if you are in need of food support for the holidays. Rest assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights to confidentiality.

Sixth Grade Soccer Tournament Champions!

The sixth grade after school soccer tournament was held this fall from the second week of September through most of the month of November. The games were held after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

The tournament began with 15 different teams representing Social Studies classes from the three different sixth grade teams: Vikings, Ancient Greeks, and Romans. It was a tournament of fun filled games where students enjoyed time with classmates and fresh air, while learning more about each other and the game of soccer. Each team played at least two games throughout the fall. Two teams advanced to the final game on November 24th. The championship was played between the undefeated class of Ms. Orcutt's F block team and Ms. Orcutt's C block team. Orcutt F prevailed in the championship with a score of 5-2.

Congrats to the Orcutt F team pictured below on the day of the championship.

Hingham Middle School is partnering with our 7th grade Girl Scout troop 67827 for a school wide donation drive. As a non-profit the Scituate Animal Shelter relies on community support to help animals in need. Let's stock their shelves for the holidays!

Funky Feet Presents . . .

Hingham Recreation’s own Funky Feet School of Dance will perform “The Funky Nutcracker” on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 4:30 PM at Hingham Middle School.

Jenn Feeney and Krissy Litchfield, childhood dancers and best friends, have rewritten and choreographed the traditional Nutcracker with a joyful twist, inviting students to experience this beloved tradition without the pressure cooker of constant rehearsals. With Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Tap, and Classical Ballet woven into the story, dancers get to explore new styles while bringing a fresh twist to a timeless tale.

This year, 130 dancers from Hingham and surrounding communities, ages 2 to 18, will take the stage—as they leap into brand-new scenes, dream roles, and surprises. From Clara and Sugar Plum Fairies to tiny hip-hoppers grooving through the Land of Sweets, there’s room for everyone to shine. Over half the cast attends Hingham Middle School, and ten dancers will be presented with tiaras for five consecutive years of participation.

Please join us for the Nutcracker you know and love… just with a little extra funk by going to tututix.com to purchase tickets.
