Inspiring the Next Generation of ABCUSD Musicians
The Artesia High School gym was filled with joyful noise on September 2 as families came together for ABCUSD Family Band Night!
Band directors and student musicians from across the District welcomed families and gave students an opportunity to explore the world of music. Students could see and hear a variety of band instruments, try them out, meet our band teachers, and learn more about beginning their own musical journey.
From trumpets and trombones to drums, clarinets, saxophones, and more, the evening was all about trying something new, having fun, and inspiring the next generation of ABCUSD musicians.
Thank you to our band directors and student musicians for sharing their time, talent, and love of music with our families!
Families Navigate Screen Time Together at Parent Symposium
Thank you to the families who joined us Wednesday evening at Whitney High School for our Navigating Student Screen Time Parent Symposium!
The evening brought together parents, educators, students, and experts for an important conversation about how technology affects young people and how families can help students develop healthy, meaningful digital habits.
One key idea shared during the evening was the difference between screen time and screen value. Instead of focusing only on how much time students spend on a device, families were encouraged to consider what students are doing with that time. Are they learning, creating, solving problems, connecting with others, or simply consuming content?
Families also heard directly from students about their experiences with technology, providing an important perspective on the role devices and social media play in their daily lives.
Thank you to our speakers, student panelists, staff, and everyone who helped make this first-of-its-kind ABCUSD event possible. Most importantly, thank you to our families for joining the conversation and partnering with us as we help students navigate an increasingly digital world.
Attendance Awareness Month
Attending school every day is one of the best ways to help students learn and grow. September is Attendance Awareness Month, and schools across the District are celebrating the importance of being at school with fun activities reminding students that their presence matters!
From pajama days to dressing as a favorite book or movie character, schools are finding creative ways to remind students that showing up each day makes a difference.

Stronger Together: Connect. Support. Prevent.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. We continue to share information and resources to help families recognize when someone may be struggling and know how to offer support.
This week, our focus is on connecting people with support and resources. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis, help is available by calling or texting 988. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and connects callers with trained crisis counselors who can provide support and connect them with additional resources when needed.
As a reminder, Care Solace is available to ABCUSD students, families, and staff. Care Solace can help connect you with mental health and substance use care that fits your needs and circumstances. Call 888-515-0595 or visit caresolace.com/site/abcusd for assistance.
Together, we can build a community where people feel connected, supported, and able to ask for help when they need it.
