Civics in Action: A Look Back at Our Trip to the Capitol!

What an incredible day! Our Adult Education class recently took a trip to the Connecticut State Capitol in Hartford, and we have the photos to prove it! It was a day filled with history, stunning architecture, and a firsthand look at how our state’s laws are made.

The highlight of our visit was a special meeting with State Representative Patrick Biggins. Representing the 11th District (East Hartford and Manchester), Rep. Biggins took time out of his busy legislative schedule for a group shot.

Highlights from the Day:

Up-Close History: We marveled at the marble floors and historic statues while learning about the building’s 19th-century origins.
A Personal Connection: Rep. Biggins shared insights into his work.
Legislative Insider: We got a peek at the House Chamber and the Legislative Office Building, seeing exactly where the debates happen.

This week, we’re taking a break from the lesson plans to celebrate a very special member of our faculty. Join us in wishing a huge Happy Birthday to Matt, our dedicated Adult Education teacher!

Matt has a rare gift for making complex lessons feel approachable and for creating a classroom environment where every student feels seen and supported. Whether he’s helping a student nail their lessons, or simply gain the confidence to keep learning, his impact on our community is immeasurable."Education is the key to unlocking the world, and Matt is the one handing out the keys every single day."

Matt, thank you for your patience, your wit, and your unwavering belief in the potential of your students.
