Through the Ring of Fire

Students in Mrs. Watts’s AP Physics class tested their knowledge of projectiles with a Ring of Fire lab practical. Mrs. Watts explains, “Our AP Physics class model is to learn the physics concepts, then use a predict and verify method so that students can repeatedly see that physics works!” Students were given the launch velocity and launch angle of a steel ball and then asked to predict the location of a ring in which the ball would pass through in its flight. Each ring represents a different lab group that worked together for this prediction. Ultimately students built confidence in their understanding of projectiles in two dimensions!

All About Bears

Ms. Sherre's K4 students have been learning all about bears and hibernation. They had many questions to explore, books to read and games to play as they learned. To wrap up their lesson, they went on bear hunt to find the bears after they escaped the cave students made for them. After searching high and low, the class was reunited with their special bears in the courtyard!

A Shared Journey

We’re thrilled to welcome our exchange students from St. Paul’s School Barcelona! Middle school students Guillermo, Toni, Santiago, Giulio, Natalia, Elisaveta, Lily, Carla, and Nayara — along with upper school students Ani and Claudia — will spend the next several weeks on campus and with their host families as they experience life as American teenagers.

We’re proud to continue strengthening the special bond between our schools, students, and host families.

Shaping Creativity in Ceramics

Mr. Jameson’s Ceramics 101 class introduces students to the basics of clay construction and rudimentary pottery with bottom-up learning that eventually leads to more complicated pieces. The focus is hands-on building techniques - pinch, coil, and slabs as well as decorating techniques for finishing work. Functional and decorative applications are explored in a variety of themes and designs. Students will be introduced to the craft of wheel thrown pottery in the more advanced Ceramics II course in the spring.

Making Smart Choices

In honor of Red Ribbon Week, Oct 23- Oct 31, GWA students will participate in some fun and educational activities that support the mission to keep students drug-free. Each advisory group has designed their own "Be Free from Drugs and Alcohol" posters to be displayed in the lunchroom. The posters will be judged by a group of faculty members and the advisory group with the winning design earns a pizza party!

Next week, students will receive RRW bracelets and ribbons, and all students will have a RED OUT on Oct 29.
